... the Parliament decides what is a law, not individuals in the community. Penalties are assigned for breaking the law and that may include going to jail. The purpose of some penalties is to discourage persons from breaking the law-- it is called a deterrent. When a person breaks the law it means they have no regard for it. When they break the law repeatedly it undermines the law and causes lawlessness in society. If young black men do not want to go to jail, they only have to do one thing-- not break the law!! Simple!
So Birdie, the problem is not the law but the lawbreakers! Until laws are changed by Parliament, they should all be enforced!
#A senior Government medical official has admitted that around $100 million, or 25-30 per cent of its annual healthcare spending, is wasted.
#The stunning admission by Dr Glen Beneby, the Government’s chief medical officer, will likely ignite further debate over whether the Government’s stewardship and governance systems will be able to ensure ‘value for money’ with the bigger funding pool it is seeking for National Health Insurance (NHI).
#Dr Beneby, a panellist at a recent NHI discussion hosted by the Economic Society of the College of the Bahamas (COB), said the Government was spending $400 million annually in the public health care sector.
*"So we have Rotary International. We have Ernst & Young. We have Bahamas Hope. All of these three entities we’re **talking about** and collaborating on **assisting** us with the construction of these centres and hurricane shelters."*
Talking about and assisting is not doing! The major failure of the government in handling this pandemic was not physically quarantining infected persons. Knowing that hurricane season was coming it seems prudent to me for them to have considered from March that they could have addressed two problems at once, by doing what I suggested. Post Dorian, hurricane shelters should have been high on a list of priorities for certain islands!
But watch them spend twice the money and get half the benefit!
You don't become a responsible thinking adult just by getting older. Many are not emotionally or intellectually ready for the responsibilities they take on in relationships or jobs because they have not seen it modeled. Society is being constantly dumbed down, but we should expect thoughtfulness, self control and excellence in times of adversity?
This was an opportunity to build quarantine sites on different islands during the pandemic that could have doubled as hurricane shelters ( or other multipurpose buildings). Governments just love to waste time and money!
Many people will be surprised AGAIN at the outcome of this election because they refuse to observe the signs and elevate their opinions above reality. The simple facts are that more independents support Trumps positions, black voters are shifting their support to Trump at higher numbers than last election and polls show that people who intend to support Trump don't reveal their real intentions to pollsters. Add to the mix that people are tired of the rioting, looting and Democratic disregard for violent protests and a power cocktail is working against Biden! .
Disliking Trump will not change the fact that barring some miracle, he will win again in November!

Give them their wish, but deny them access to public healthcare if they develop a preventable illness like COVID-19! Lets sit back and see what happens!!
