The worlds largest producers of wheat flour, grain, rice, potatoes, safflower oil and other food items have started to significantly reduce export of these items. The short term is not a problem, but what happens if this coronavirus issue extendes 6 -12 months,we may not be able to import flour to bake bread!

There are only two options: 1) lockdown in some form- which prevents people from getting infected and becoming immune to the disease or dying WHILE preventing large amounts of sick people from overwhelming hospital services or 2) doing nothing which allows people to get exposed, 80% will have no issues and become immune to the disease but the vulnerable will die. Based on the amount of mass gatherings we have had in this country, most people have probably already been exposed, so we need to do antibody tests for those people and sent them back to work! Then lets see what happens!
The simple reality is that at this point most people in Nassau in particular, have probably already been exposed to this virus. 80% of people who have it will have no symptoms. Once people have had it, there are less people who can catch it!
There is no evidence thus far that those who had it can get it twice so, we can get ahead of the game if the government institutes antibody testing for locals. Those who have already had the virus can go back to work! You can then open to tourists with the prerequisite that they have antibody testing to confirm that they already had the infection as well. This can be done at home or at the airport in a special booth as they arrive. This would allow for a phase based approach to opening up for tourists again! This also give the government the opportunity to negotiate a harder stance with increased benefits from the cruise ship industry, because they need ports to go to. Why am I wasting my time, those idiots in government will do the exact opposite and we will be no better off at the end of this thing!
We must help those who are UNABLE to help themselves, but must we help those who are unwilling to help themselves? Those who like an handout, but not a hand up and how does one differentiate? This country cannot move forward until this fundamental question is properly addressed!

For decades governments have been borrowing and wasting billions of dollars, spending far more than they take in and those who benefitted from it never complained, but abused the system. Money has to come from somewhere, so the bloated civil service, those unions that squeezed the government around election time and bonuses government workers got around election time and all the money taken and not repaid to National Insurance and all the concessions given to foreign companies to attract their business along with poor individual handling of resources has to create a situation where some cannot get much. This generation that I see squandering their money, having children they cannot afford and living paycheck to paycheck will soon be in the position of this poor lady, crying for help, when they are no longer able to help themselves!
I am not sure what the purpose of these stories is supposed to serve, but I hope their hard times don't last much longer. Maybe she or her husband could try planting some vegetables, catch some fish in the canals. There are options.
By the way, hurricane season is right around the corner!
@moncurcool... my reasoning can be strange, but if a person is KNOWN to have a highly contagious killer disease, that is spread by talking or coughing and they are ordered to be confined to the home, then a means should be available to ensure that they do not leave the home to infect others outside of the home. If they leave the home they should be charged with public endangerment! But how can you know if they leave the home if you do not have a means to monitor them???
