If only people could be as passionate about education, character (moral) development and increasing productivity on the job! We need far more than money to move this country forward!
The problem is that the previous GB airport was destroyed after flooding from two back to back hurricanes. They built the new one a stones throw from the old one but elevated the foundation. There was still flooding in the new airport during Dorian. A flooded runway and airport makes it difficult to get supplies into the island in the immediate aftermath of a major storm.
The government should abandon the current location of the airport (because it is in a flood prone area) and build a new airport at a much higher elevation to minimize wasting funds renovating the airport after every major hurricane and to ensure they can respond quickly by getting supplies and support into the island after a major storm.
Anyone who takes the time to investigate will find that in many areas coastal erosion and land reclaimed by the sea has been a phenomenon recorded for many centuries. In this count, in spite of all the talk, the government still permits cutting down of hills for fill (that shows their true level of concern). In addition I never hear anyone talk about new islands that have formed and are being formed as a part of the natural processes that occur on the earth. The climate is changing, it has always been changing! What is new is the mass hysteria and propagandizing of the process by the UN and others!
If Bahamians really want to fight "climate change" then they should stop buying products made in China. That one act will do far more than other hair brained schemes being proposed to fight this 'great evil'!
Minimum wage is essentially an entry level wage. It is not intended to be a wage around which people build their lives. The real problem is that people have lifestyles and responsibilities (by choice or ignorance) that minimum wage cannot support and too many don't seek to improve themselves so that they can earn a better wage.
Such a ban won't stop parents from allowing their children to have a soda with their fast food breakfast, post school snack or dinner. The majority of people with children have no idea of what is required to properly raise children in terms of diet, hygiene and morals.
Why not increase the duty on high sugar AND high salt products (chips etc) and implement a national lunch program created by dietitians so children can have at least one proper meal per day? BAMSI could supply the vegetable!
