The Bahamas is trying to be just like Haiti, and succeeding. In less than 25 years, nobody will be able to tell the difference. Many Haitians will even take to the boats then to return to their more prosperous home country and some Bahamians will join them.
You are right about that Christmas Eve thing. Most likely you are talking about the jewellery business. Believe it or not, on xmas eve and xmas together those businesses actually bring in 50% of their entire year's sales. That is truly truly hard to believe. I mean a whole half-year's worth of sales in only two days!!!! But it is true. I've been there, done that.
In that case I can understand the policy of termination as long as it is explained to new employees at the time of hiring and also as long as new employees are given compensation or other consideration if they are hired like within 2 months of xmas and can prove they have paid plane tickets or other paid plans for the holiday. Other than that, you knew about it long enough and signed and agreed to it - so you need to work those days.
You may be right about Mr. Butler - I do not know him. However, this move was just silly. If you don't like your job then find a NEW one. No new ones to find? That is, no good paying, well treating jobs, pleasant workplaces? Then stop having children. Where do you expect them to work when they grow up? You want them to be a slave just like you?
The article says "... in 2010. No financials have been published since then, despite three further financial years having subsequently closed."
does this mean simply that no financials have "been published" OR that there are NO financial to publish.
In either case, somebody is to blame. Find out who, specifically, has prevented them from being published - OR find out who is in charge of financial reporting and fire them today.
Of course that won't happen - and so because there are no consequences, there will be no change. Why don't we just accept that there will be no more financials published EVER again in the future? I mean, why not? Why should the publish them? Who cares? What will happen if they don't? Answer ... nothing.
Yet, people continue to have babies all the time - basically condemning them to live in the hell hole of a country we live in. Why do people want to condemn innocent babies? That is just inhuman.
So from that point of view, I say people deserve what they get - because they don't care about other people (ie. babies who will one day grow up) who suffer the same fate.
I guess Mr. Goodman is another one of those souls from whom WE have removed his birthright as a child of God. I suppose he no longer deserves justice or any other kind of humane consideration.
Bahamasair needs to get rid of the jets. We can't afford to keep leasing them. We should also not ask China to "give" us any jets (not that that's been talked, but it is not unbelievable).
We should stick with the Dash-8's and have a regular schedule to all the family islands AND to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm with the Dash-8's only. Also STOP trying to put the smaller airlines out of business, like they did a couple years ago in Andros with them running almost empty planes back and forth twice a day.
There ought to be a management team appointed by the Governor General that has EQUAL representation (say a senior management team of 10 with five staunch FNMs and five stuanch PLPs) so that that the Andros thing doesn't repeat - that is, trying to put the airlines affiliated with the "out of power" party out of business.
If we can stop doing fool like that (by equalizing the political representation) and stop wasting money leasing jets so we can "look bigger than we are" - we will be just fine and turn a profit.
John - no, the situation is yes there are only a few persons there (more than 25 though) who are in for murder - and these get used as examples by ignorant people like Mr. Miller when they make examples in the press.
I agree with Mr. Miller that for convicted "hardened criminals" as he says, they should not live in a life of luxury while in prison.
However, MOST people in Fox Hill have not been convicted of anything. They have been accused and are awaiting trial in the portion called "Remand". Remand is actually in worse condition than the hardened criminal area. For example, the water there is full of rust and salt. The water in the "hardened" and "convicted" area is quite clean.
Remand people have to wait months and years for trial (there was one guy from Japan who had to wait 14 years because prison officials said they couldn't find a translator). But most wait nearly a year and many wait up to five years to stand trial. Often they are released on "time served" because they spent more time in prison before trial than the Judge would give after they are found (or plead) guilty. Many plead guilty even though they are innocent because they know they don't want to wait another three years (for example) for another day in court and also so that they can drink clean water and stop having back pains from kidney infections.
Mr. Miller is living in a dream world if he thinks HMP is anywhere near luxury status or would be anytime in the future. The situation there is not fit for stocking farm animals, but yet we as a christian nation hold in lockup there beings whom we claim are children of God.
I hope that God has no mercy on members of the churches for this atrocity when their day surely comes to stand before Him.
Don't worry, our rank will drop significantly next year when the VAT kicks in. Also a good percentage of that "income per capita" is shipped out to other "countries in the south" without naming names.
But, it's good talk though. Sounds really nice. They oughta save it for the next election campaign.
