Why is this woman here leading anything? Why would we aspire to be anything like Uganda, a tragic, backwards laughingstock of the international community? As the rest of the world moves forward Uganda nestles safely in the 1700's. Ridiculous.

What is happening? Uganda became the subject of international scorn and derision when they passed those laws. Why are we looking to Uganda for advice on how to move forward instead of backwards?

jt says...

Wow, lkorky, you missed the point entirely.

Thanks Judge Allen! Job well done. Just another sane, progressive, uncorrupt day here in the Bahamas.

That reef is THE asset "given by God" to Bimini, quick let's tear it out. The dredging is not the only damage; the pier will impact currents and tidal flow to harm a much wider area of the "God given" marine habitat. I am speaking of the reefs that protect Biminites from hurricane surge, generate jobs for fishermen and lure tourists for diving. The stupidity, hypocrisy and corruption exhibited here is astounding even by Bahamian standards. RIP Bimini, area code 305.

As for the whole cascarilla thing, has anyone in Acklins ever considered propagating the trees instead of perpetually wounding them in nature?

jt says...

Say it is 3,000 trees. That's $333 per tree. Also, our native key limes (not the Persian limes sold in food stores) come true from seed. Nobody needed to buy anything at all...just plant some seeds and wait. Or better yet, grow some delicious sour oranges!

jt says...

Okay, here's the thing. California has a Mediterranean climate, tailored to lemons, which they grow. Limes flourish in subtropical, humid climates - like South Florida, Mexico and the Bahamas. Any lime variety best suited to California would probably be a terrible choice for the Bahamas.
