@sheeprunner12, I am familiar with the Defence Force's ignorance of reports of Dominican poachers. My cousin works on a boat out of Spanish Wells. I have heard horror stories about Defence Force officers laughing at the notion of intervening. That didn't happen here. I am merely applauding what I hope will be the start of a trend towards action and protection of our marine resources. I hope we see more of it, and I'll say it again, good job.
@Madhatter, I constantly hear this repeated by fishermen and would be very curious to see it tested. I think it is a superstition. I lived in the Exumas for a time and there were huge beds of roller conch on the flats - so many that walking barefoot was hazardous. Every night, stingrays would move in and crunch up many conchs, but they never migrated anywhere. Conch slop, meat, etc is rapidly eaten by scavengers in nature, and doesn't have time to decay. Like I said, I'm curious to see evidence to back this up.
This is absolutely disgusting. Places like India have banned the captive keeping of dolphins for entertainment; why can't we? We say we are a shark sanctuary and it is illegal to kill turtles but yet we pen up intelligent mammals for sheer profit? Dolphin dives exist in nature here, and people can volunteer to assist researchers in south Abaco for two unique, memorable dolphin/whale experiences. The fact that they have proceeded without approval is just the Bahamian icing on the cake. Another day, another disappointment in our outdated, ignorant, corrupt and senseless government.
These are great suggestions. However, it seems trite to blame the massacre in Fox Hill on a junkanoo judging delay. Pretty sure those guys were headed to shoot up some people regardless.
@Briwest, killing people is never okay. Is it somehow worse if the murderer and victim are both of the same skin colour? That is some pretty faulty logic.
