All this mean is more contracts for hotmix. He is no longer a cabinet minister with no voting power and now no conflict of interest. This worked out in his favour. Brave those cant question him in the house now on contracts.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) does not intend to probe a recent auditor general’s report into the National Sports Authority (NSA) because not all auditor’s reports need to be looked into, PAC Chairman Philip Brave Davis said yesterday.
The report, which was tabled in the House of Assembly earlier this month, found that a consultancy company was paid over $1.1 million for work that was never done; that contracts issued by the authority “lacked formalized process and transparency”; and that, at times, the NSA’s executive management “operated in contravention of the Financial Regulations”.
When asked if the PAC intends to probe the report, Davis said, “Not at this time.”
He added: “The Public Accounts Committee, I take very seriously and I do not intend to have the committee get involved in any sort of what I call blame games.”
The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) leader noted that “not all auditor’s reports we need to look into”.
The audit covered the period from July 2011 to December 2017.
Davis served as deputy prime minister from 2012 until 2017.
***NSA audit***
The NSA audit revealed that “Company A” entered into an agreement with the authority in May 2015 for a three-year period ending in August 2018 “at a fixed fee of $40,000 per month and payable in quarterly installments”.
“We noted that the NSA board made recommendation to cancel the company’s service contract in a letter dated May 22, 2017,” the auditor general wrote.
“However, the company at this point had already received a total of $1,191,579.91 for services that were never performed.”
The report noted that the company had 10 deliverables, none of which were completed.
But former Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr. Danny Johnson accused auditors of performing their jobs poorly.
“If Mr. Bastian feels that there are things that are untoward, then I think that’s fine, and we can answer those questions, but I could defend whatever the hell that is,” Johnson said.
He added, “Every penny can be accounted for.”
He continued, “…Don’t put no nonsense out to the public. You think Danny Johnson might have thief some money? Man, kiss my ass.
@ DDK. A few questions for you 1. Do we have an Aviation Registry now? 2. Are we benefiting from a registry now? 3. Do we have the expertise and competency to create/start one? 4. Can we benefit from an aviation registry here? 5. Do you have any recommendations how you can make this happen? Presently we do not make any money from one now, so the most could happen is we don't make any when it is created. These are reputable and organized companies who have success stories with creating registries. Let take a gamble with it. You and you children's children may benefit from it.
Totally agree with this article. Need to put laws in place and enforce them. Some of the taxpayers are suffering because of this poor management of these Ministries/Departments and these SOE's. A few are benefiting while others are paying for it. I say lock all up and stop protecting these thieves. These SOE's are only slush funds for a selected few.

***@ chucky***. Yes it's paid vacation but spread out over 1 to 2 years as opposed to the 1 to 2 years vacation paid in a lump sum in addition to their gratuity etc. It's easier on our finances to spread it over a longer time. Could you imagine having to pay each of them $60,000 or whatever their annual salaries are, that would be $300,000.00, plus their gratuity of whatever amount on their retirement. If they remain and work up until their official retirement date, then they would have been paid for those years that they should have been on vacation and still carry their vacation over to be paid on retirement. This makes a lot of sense to me from a financial background. Just to break it down -- ***(Scenario 1) Leave now and take vacation for one year -- $60,000.00 X 5 = $300,000.00, then retire with no owed vacation pay. (Scenario 2) Continue to work and don't take vacation --- $60,000.00 X 5 = $300,000.00 (salary for 1 year) + $60,000.00 X 5 (Vacation pay for 1 year) = $300,000.00 for a total of $600,000.00.***
