You think six years is too tough for illegal gun possession? ... you must be joking ... the only thing he is likely to do with an illegal firearm is something against another person and indeed the law ... armed robbery, murder, shooting with intent ... you obviouly have never been at the end of a gun barrel in the hand of another. I think 20 years would be more appropiratte at least it would serve as a deterrent and protect innocent citizens.
Is the business of taking these persons straight to SRC normal practice or is this just because he is a police officer? Also I noted that no where in the article was it mentioned if he was charged with anything ... just says he was helping with their inquiries ... is this normal practice ... would the same thing pertain if it were me???
I think income tax is the way to go ... you are likely to get a higher level of compliance and it could be structured so that the poor does not carry the bulk of the burden. Here is how I think it should be structured: if you make less than 10,000 p.a. = no tax; 10,001 - 15,000 = 15%; 15,001 - 20,000 = 16%,: 20,001 - 25,000 = 17%; etc up to a maximum of 25-30%. This eliminates the large leaps at certain threshholds which discourage upward mobility. I am sure (without doing the math) that it will bring in more money than VAT and cost less to administer. There is an existing structure (NIB) that can be expanded or replicated to carry out the collections without the need for every business incurring expense for accountants. Das my 5cents.
The headline should have read: ***"The Bahamian Government does not understand VAT"*** ... that would have been more accurate ... right now the blind leading the blind towards the precipice over the next rise.
Really a sad day ... I believe that murders which are commited via a home invasion should be classified as capital murders and punishable by the noose. Your home should be your sanctuary and if that is invaded then whoever has the balls to do that should be hanged by the neck until he is dead.
A ***"'disturbing' video featuring 'terrible images'”*** of a politician in the House of Assembly ... if it was that terrible what the h*#l is HE doing in the House ... it appears as if he would not be fit to sit in the Honourable House. The media should boycott the House and ALL politicians until they back away from this crappy rule. It is not like there is anything of consequence being discussed there anyway.
PGC, ***"I am saying that the country wants a government that is able to listen to the people and respond positively with respect to what is taking place."*** So since your are so attentive and responsive to the people, what happen to the NO vote in the recent opinion pole or that doesn't count since it does not suit your agenda?
