I like how they say it will be floating or flexible and can go up or down. Nope, it will only go down. If the central bank removes the peg, we will be extremely luck to get $0.60USD for each of our dollar, and will more likely be looking at $0.40USD to $1.00BSD. It would absolutely decimate any savings of Bahamians and cause prices to skyrocket as everything we buy is imported and almost all of those imports are purchased with USD. We will lose all of our purchasing power.

I hope people take this projection seriously. Fall of 2017 is still an aggressive timetable to get Baha Mar opened. No more of this 'dead good news soon'. We have to come to terms with the fact that this hotel will not open for a very long time.

On Earliest full Baha Mar open is winter 2017

You're right Birdie, he did show bad judgement, he chose to invest money in the Bahamas. That was by far his worst decision in this whole mess.

Once again Nicole can't see the forest through the trees. I'm sure she would love if all the tourists just leave and never come back, because she has absolutely no idea where the money that runs this country comes from. Why is it more important to keep tourists away from crime and disease . . . because they account for over 70% of the economy. Over 60% of the people are employed directly in the hospitality industry. Does Nicole not understand what a 10% drop in tourism spending would do? Lets start with taking 7% off of our Duty and VAT collections that run the government, lets fire 6% of the workforce (or about 9,000 people). Maybe then we should see what our crime levels and disease levels look like. Always one to piss and moan, Nicole has yet to pen one single article that has any actionable ideas that would actually benefit this country.

Forget about Birdie and her comments. Is this really the kind of thing we as Bahamians are willing to accept? These so called leaders are stealing from the Bahamian people. They are blatantly abusing their positions of power to profit for themselves! Rolle is an MP in the sitting government who managed to get himself one of the larger government contracts available, then goes to a government run bank that is suppose to serve and entirely different purpose to get a $200,000 loan. The man profited from his position of power. And where do you think that money came from? It came from the tax paying people. It is Bahamians money! It's just an old boys club and only those on the inside get to prosper. They do not even try and hide it. Yet the Bahamian people just take it? How is that we get lied to, over and over and do nothing. The government will never need all that tear gas and riot gear it bought with the Chinese money, because we will never actually stand up for anything. It's shameful that we just accept such outright abuses of power. It is time to take a stand.
