There are many reasons. The first being that the government is trying to bring in NHI, so therefore a person's bad health is now everyone's problem. The second is that people who are in bad health tend to take more sick days, have lower productivity and produce a lower quality of work. Companies invest lots of money into many of their employees through on the job training and having a healthy employee gives a better return on that investment.
You are correct that there is a mentality that other people will take care of our slackness, and that is something that needs to change. We have a problem in this country with taking responsibility.
The BAMSI fire, BOB's loan write down, the dump fire and Brave's involvement in RENEW Bahamas contracts, record murder rates, Alfred Gray's judicial meddling, the wasted money from Carnival, failure to have the equality referendum, disregarding the web shop referendum, and on and on.
I'm really not sure what else the government could do that would finally cause the Bahamian people to demand accountability.
43 Years of little to no upward economic mobility for the average Bahamian is more than enough evidence to show that the government has no interest in helping 'the poor Bahamian'
I would bet that they have very little idea of the history of Junkanoo or it's evolution into the parade it is today. They just know it's a party that they are supposed to participate in and that it started a long time ago.
These are the rantings of a wannabe Supreme Dictator. This is a democracy. Respect is earned, not required. The majority of Bahamians didn't even vote PLP and even the ones that did only voted for their MP. The PM is simply the leader of the party with the most seats. He has the same, one vote, in parliament as the rest of the MP's and is not a dictator who gets to make all the decisions. While his office holds some prestige, his actions dictate how much respect or criticism he is entitled to.
I'm not sure what the minister is so "encouraged" about. The two most important subjects, English and Math saw big drops. Our education system fails to graduate more than 35% of students. We need to get all of these results over a C. We see an E average for math and it's easy to see why so many Bahamians have trouble balancing their personal finances.
Our failure in education is what leads to unemployment, crime, poor family planning, and health problems. The single biggest thing we can do to improve this country is to pour all of the money we are wasting in the government, into education.
Unemployment is at record high's because many Bahamians do not posses the skills to work in even entry level positions. They are capable but have not received even a basic level of education.
We are failing the next generation if we allow this sort of failed education system to continue. The best way to escape the trap of poverty is to get an education, and the more educated and middle class people we have in this country the better we will all be for it.

Well done. The AG and PLP seem to think that it's only a conflict after an impropriety.
