In any real democracy, this is a crime. This 'much ado' is about corruption and the unethical dealing of the people who are supposed to be leading this country.

Those Cessna's could just be UAV's and bring the figure down to $200,000 for each. There is absolutely no thinking or logic that went into buying these boats other than somebody lining their pockets with the people's money.

50% inflation for boat builders in 2 years? I think not Tal. Your second option is the one that is the winner. Someone is pocketing a windfall.

Do we even know who bid on this? Was this an open and transparent bidding process with requests for proposals, or public tenders? No, it was another backroom deal. Just another corrupt dealing to add to the growing list.

I suggest you have a look at B_I_D__'s comments here on inflation. Or perhaps even do the math yourself because you're looking at 50% inflation in 2 years.

Proper fiscal management is the key here. No matter how many taxes we have, no matter how high the rate, we will still be in debt because our governments do not understand how to be responsible with money. They will just keep borrowing more money and incurring more debt.

The spending has to stop!

Baby steps...

You are right, we need to hold our elected leaders accountable. They work for us!

newcitizen says...

It's not the leaders who are mindless idiots. It's us, the citizens. These leaders readily admit to corruption, abuse of power, mismanagement etc, yet only a few quiet voices of objection are ever heard from the people. The leaders know that we will do nothing.

I think we must give Gibson some due though. He is the only politician I've seen who has shown any restraint in spending our money. I can't fault him trying to conserve.

newcitizen says...

I have to give Minister Gibson credit. He seems to be the only minister in the government who is showing any restraint with the public's money. He even understands that this money belongs to the Bahamian people. We would be in such a better situation if the other ministers could understand fiscal restraint.

newcitizen says...

More government waste. Unnecessary spending at the expense of tax payers. Every time we turn around the government, who is trying to take more and more from the people, is spending money it doesn't have. We need to wake up. The Bahamas is being run into the ground and the politicians in charge will not care. They will have taken everything they can from this country before it's over.
