I don't know. I recall exactly the first time I saw a billboard in the US outside IHOP. I was mesmerized. I think I still carry pounds from eating a stack of their pancakes with blueberrueberrues preserve on it. I ate that every day till I could no more. Nowadays I make my own pancakes.
The other day I stopped by a shop which is supposed to open at 8am. It was not until 8:15 that it was open. Employees and customers were gathered outside. The customers were carrying on and very angry.
It is not like they came up with this idea on their own. This is a mandate from Dr. Tedros, the poet, from WHO. The tax is supposed to be 20%, imposed on the industry.
It has already been implemented in Barbados.
Mind you, the import duty on juices is already 40%, now add 20% to that. Wow.
It baffles me to think that I this inflationary period, they are going to tax the corned beef and the macaroni and cheese.
> make private healthcare less accessible - and increasingly unaffordable
For reasons other than VAT, this process has benn going on a long time.
I dropped health insurance in 2004.
Now I am systematically dropping medical providers whose billing practices are geared towards insurers, as they bill me the same they bill insurance, thus making money off me.
And while inland revenue is at it, there are doctors who charge VAT , but are not registrants or do not file VAT at all. so, go after them. I just cease to attend these doctors and take my chances at PMH.
Also notice that the union is not active in private schoools, since private schools have too many expatriate teachers.
The expatriate does not do the same work for less financial benefit. More work is demanded of him for less financial benefit, as he is expected to do more volunteer work spend more of his earnings in school supplies and never, ever be late. And then they send him home on the evening of his 65th birthday. Like Boxer was sent to the goo factory.

Being uninsured, I have been shocked when attending the doctors multiple times. I always pay the VAT.
All people have to do is drop the insurance and pocket the money.
