Nobody is surprised by Bradley Roberts' responce ,because we all know what he purportedly had done to a former lady friend when he had problems letting go when she no longer wanted him.So it would not have been any problem to hit a woman ,even when he was the instigator. As for demeanor in the House of Assembly,we all remember Algernon Allen pleading with the Speaker to calm Bradley Roberts down as he was "frightening the little darlings" .I must also add that if Dr. Rollins had acted in such a condescending manner with either Mr. ingraham or the late Sir Lynden Pindling,he would have gotten the same responce,in the least.
Some years ago, when Keith Bell was was a police officer and going to evening classes ,studying law, a lecturer wrote that he was a very good candidate to become an attorney and that he should pursue law seriously. He did so , graduating at the top of his class at UWI.He was one of the speakers chosen at my child's COB orientaton some years ago and i could not believe tha this was the same person and as he has entered politics , i am still of the same view.,which leads me to believe that you do not have to be the brightest to become a lawyer. My main point about his comment about the billboards that the PLP placed about the murders in tourist frequented areas ,concerns the inadequate job that our journalists are doing, because if they were on the ball when he made that comment, surely one of them could have asked if he would have a problem with the billboards NOW.
Reading the above article i would like to know, if Justice Blackman was quoted correctly when he said "I am of the opinion that the decision of the magistrate was unreasonable and cannot be supported having regard to the evidence", because if the quote was correct , then he believes that the officer should have been convicted, but that they would not change his decision, even though it was not the correct one, considering the evidence presented. Also the other two Justices said that the magistrate does not HAVE to convict the officer, in effect saying tht he has the option of letting him go free, which he did exercise. The three Justices did not say that they believed he was innocent. they just said that they would not change or overule his decision, which he was free to make.
I must admit that i am quite impressed with Miss Turner's articles .There are many letter writers out the ,whose letters are just given a quick perusal by me at best ,or not at all ,letters written from both sides of the political divide, eg; Ivoine Ingraham, Ossie Brown,Forrester Carroll etc, because historically they are all just apologists for their political masters and in many cases written for political crumbs.Without glancing over Bahamas Press, another one of them, i wouldn't even khow who Sharon Turner is.It is obvious from her writings that she is an intelligent ,articulate and knowledgible your lady with a great concern for her country.I look forward to reading more of them!
Keep it up Hubert Chipman and use their own mantra .Remember what they used to say about the road project , which was completely necessary and has transformed Nassau. Tell them they care more about buildings than they care about people.
The mere fact that he was convicted was good even though i disagree with the punishment. We have many convicted murderers and arm robbers walking the streets and others who are a danger to soceity. His reputation has been severly tarnished and i think we missed a great oppurtunity here. Since nobody, except repeat offenders ,like to go to jail , he should have been given an alternative ; that ,or build a house over-the -hill for some poor Bahamian free of charge and he would have to report there every day for a full 8 hours,5 days a week until it is completed.I believe he would choose the latter. In my view that would be punishment enough as black Bahamian politicians only go there when on the campaign trail and most of them don't like to .
my comment is not on this article per se, but on your related "More like this story" section. It would be good if your related stories had a date attached to them for it is only when reading the article if a date is mentioned therein that you can pinpoint the time. If no date is mentioned within the article you are left stumped .
The main thing that concerns me about this sad affair is that Mr. Smith said that the prime minister has complete confidence in him.We all know that the prime minister has never shown the guts to not have confidence in any of his MP's. Remember Shane Gibson,Perry Christie said that he did not have to resign ,but when things got too hot and Shane did resign( on his own) because Perry is afraid to pressure them, Perry said that it was the right thing to do.
