Darn, the colour thing again...

...don't think the communist country cares what colour we are - they will stomp all over us as needed to accommodate their agenda.

Stay positive if you can manage... we will never have sensible prices on this rock until the major foreign retail chains are allowed to do business here and the tax structure is fully overhauled.

Just forget more taxes and bigger government!
Can't you see what is going on in the private sector?
Get serious and stop destroying the economy.

Andros,

You are absolutely correct... the duty rates are disgusting. Look at how many buildings need maintenance, how many cars need replacing, how hard it can be to maintain anything with parts and supplies costing two or three times the US prices - and a fluctuating local economy.
The government needs to take a serious look at the duties and slash them ALL in half. Get a professional opinion - cutting rates would mean relief to the people and likely more revenue for the government . It makes no sense to add VAT and duty on ANY food items and certainly not health insurance products - NONE! How about you TAX hard liquor etc, - one of the main causes of foolishness on our streets.
Come on Government, please get it together and think please - make progressive changes to the system. The track record indicates that the Government is not great at running any business so why come up with a national health insurance scheme on the one hand while you can wait to privatize everything else. The UK and Canada have those systems and they don't work efficiently or effectively a lot of the time from what I hear - long waits for care - an over extended system that is continually hungry for funding. Think of another solution - perhaps encourage competition from around the world and charge on that competition for entering the market - you will likely still end up with a less costly product (such as health insurance, life insurance, food).

This guy has no business representing the Bahamian people.

What an absolute disgusting idiot. Free speech must remain free, we cannot let things slide back to the 80's mentality - black or white - this or that.

Mr. PM please fire him before he destroys our country.

The "best remedy" is for government to stay out of it. Period.

Stupidity really!

No accountability ... Just hand out some more money to crying vendors.. was that part of their agreement when renting the spot? ..what was the rent amount? Why not give away the rest of the budgeted funds right? NO!

Why should anyone believe in leadership that graduated from our public school system? Think about it!

Remember socialism works only until the country runs out of money! Oops too late lets line things up to get into everyone's pocket and not reduce spending!!!!

Why not put a solid effort into the education system so the youth come out of school as productive citizens!

Oh yeah what would that take... ? Technology implementation and effort!

Yes please privatize it. Save face by watching a newly structured private Bahamasair make a profit. Wouldn't that be something to see after all the subsidies over the years.

Until serious checks and balances are put in place to curb government spending we are in huge trouble. Even with the best intentions, if this economy is not taken seriously and decisions are not made based on real numbers the cost of living will continue to rise uncontrollably. Are there experienced professionals making the decisions on what to borrow and spend?...Is there a written strategy- make it public?

Remember Education, opportunity for all, realistic minimum wage, developing a middle class based on sustainable industry- oh and please get rid of automatic gratuity at restaurants- where is the sense in that?

Government for the people doesn't mean creating an environment where handouts are necessary...

How much does it really cost to ship a container of anything from Florida, really? Is there room for improvement there? Fees, red tape, duty on shipping , crazy... Lower prices on all goods would mean more volume sold, which would lead to more overall tax collection...not less.

You are right Mr Fields, there is no way a bank that you already do business with should be so difficult. The same level of technology that supposedly keeps track of the funds in an account could be used to request updated information via email...say once or twice annually.

Bahamian businesses should be structured to show appreciation and value for Bahamian customers... Ease of doing business within reason spurs economic growth..

It seems that now that we have electronic passports and better NIB cards it would take a very short time for the bank to put a modernized system in place.

On WHY DO WE PUT UP WITH THESE BANKS?
