“We came to office not knowing what to ask for, what could be done, what are the possibilities. **Two consortiums** put their proposals forward, and at that time we said it was better to put it out to an RFP. We’re much more knowledgeable, and much further along the learning curve.”
OK Tribune ....get the goods on what the other consortium is offering I am in favour of an APD model privete public partnership.(PPP) 40% government 40%public and 20% management/operating company .
Increase the Public share ownership in the cruise port to 40 percent. Government 40. percent, Operators 20 percent That would better distribute the wealth. Exclude Shipping Families involve in APD. This should involve an Experience cruise port operator/Manager government and the public. Its Time to further end the monopoly. No set of people has exclusive ownership rights to the Harbour. The last time i checked no group of families had **sea papers** for the water in the harbour.
The Gov and well wishing Bahamians from all walks especially the private sector needs to come together with a concrete plan with deliverable dates and schedules for the redevelopement of Ragged Island. One year has passed since the hurricane and Minnis words and pronuncments are proving to be a fools promise. I say again Ragged Island is of strategic importance to this country a should remain inhabited at all cost. and could be an example of renewable developement that is possible after a hurricane.
Pindling was our Bahamas "Moses" but these two certainly did not turn out to be the much hyped up "Joshua" they promised to be during their election campaigns. PGC and HAI have played a tagged team to see who could fool the Bahamian people the most during their terms in office. The result has been Massive dept, reduced foriegn direct investment, Increase in proverty for the masses Crime out of control, and increase in unemployment, while the oligarchy in this country still control the economic purse strings while the majority suffer and live of the crumbs..
This article is just a micrososm of the mired of problems that exist at BPL and NIB, both government corporations that exist side by side on the same street. The problems extend form the Board level to the union levels and as a result the Bahamian populace is suffering because of poor service. Blame at both institutions is being cast on old antiquated equipment and computer systems that is not funtioning and causing delays in services. The stress level for staff is very high because the public expect better.
Stay awake people. There is an up coming share offering in the Nassau Harbour.cruse port.. Empower your self. Dont let the Bay street boys buy everything then complain afterwards.
Nothing will come out of this investigation when all the talk dies down. This issue will be swept under the rug because of the guilty party involved. The most she will get is a verbal warning to not do it again from the attorney general. There wont even be a fine. We may be an independent country but the powers that be still have a colonial mentality and will not do anything to offend any member of royalty not matter how distant they may be in relation to the queen.
