Waiting for a policeman is an old pastime in the Bahamas tho not for the want of officers 'at the ready' for whenever I passed the station I could hear the dominoes a-clacking!
Having just read comments mocking a report by US Human Rights concerning corruption in The Bahamas to this, my head is reeling; for this appears to be a deliberate intervention by the gov't to aid a Bahamian co. in order to circumvent international (national?) laws, the ethical concerns arising from it's cavalier exposure of it's customers to employees infected with Tuberculosis! The fact that there is no mention of any public health concerns, much less an investigation should be intolerable, instead it's just business as usual. 'Two students tested positive for TB in local schools'
$37.50/week should be seen as a gift, an opportunity. Does no one recall the years after the Market burnt down? Does anyone think how much it would be to rent a store, a corner on Bay St? How disappointing to read the mind set still reflects what holds back change, and independent thinking heartens swaggerts like Davis who seek this type of voter chained to gov't pork - or forgetfulness. Form a committee, take turns in cleaning, maintaining the Market, your place of business instead of complaining, waiting for another hand out.
Amazing that one vendor is put out she must invest her own money to light her own store! To sell her goods! Why celebrate a day of Independence if you aren't your own master?
Madam Minister get of this aging soap box of yours before it topples both you and the pcitizens and constitution you are sworn to represent justly.. answer Mr Gibson's queries about this broken system of justice!
This discussion is never resolved because the laws governing these biz, have never been enforced, & those charged with the 'enforcing' are obviously as corrupt as the owners/operators But the fact is this mpacts tourism $$ ! Nassau needs those cruisers with their feet on the ground not huddled in a bar..
What a waste of taxpayer money. Mayor Reed has been facing angry residents of East and South Atlanta where crime isn't down it's up- way up. Auto thefts, aggravated assaults and murders it's just a numbers game shifting stats between the 6 Zones of the city. And Reed just announced the closure of a homeless shelter for 700 men, but no plans for a replacement. That should help... right? Ask him about the 32 mos study that revealed that 461 criminals had committed over 14,000 crimes; and their means to do so? The City's "rocket docket" that puts them right back on the street. The blind leading the blind in Nassau and the corrupt one big jolly party of ole pols. ,at least they have some things in common besides an abundance of hot air.
So Lord Frederick has told the citizens of Long Island that their hardships are deliberatly brought about because they made the mistake of electing an MP who isn't afraid of him? My my that is dirty pool...one might even call this Minister's behaviour and the lengths to which his gov't (as he says caused the Island not to flourish) has indulged their petty sense of justice as, well not so much "warlike" as bitchy. I for one would take a strong Queen who defended and supported those under her watch than someone whose ability to speak out of both sides of his mouth is his only forte.
From a an article April 7th 2015: Mrs Monroe of Grace Avenue Marathon filed an affidavit in support of Cable Bahamas' lawsuit against Rubis in which she stated she met with principal officers of Rubis whereupon she was offered $24,000 to give her house a "face lift" however they insisted she sign a release to indemnify Rubis of any wrongdoing etc. She refused to sign, instead she asked about Rubis' liability to her... Mr. Sarnin the general manger referred her to their company's law firm Higgs and Johnson.
Mr Gallagher I remember when you came to Nasau for the trial to revolve this matter for your family, I do not believe justice was served for your son, it seemed to be a rare commodity at the time and it continues to get worse. I am sorry for your loss. In the Bahamas as you know beaches are public and hotels can only go so far to rid them of nefarious characters who may gain access to the beach or waters on jetskis selling drugs or vendors of services like those who killed your son. I do not think posting lifeguards or security makes any hotel liable or responsible for the actions of such people, rather it says they are attempting to safeguard their guests as best they can. Like you I wish I hope that the Bahamian laws are enforced so tragedies like this do not occur again.
