Lump sums is like taking fool's gold from 242 politicians. But our ppl just look at money in hand, not long term. They would have spent the lump sum by the time the VAT10 kick in. What a time.
Our economy is too small for VAT exemptions. But it's the purpose that the VAT is being used for that is troubling. Also, VAT by itself cannot save the economy. Better spending practices and reducing the size of Govt must go hand in hand with the VAT. Else we are still in the same debt situation as before VAT.
No regattas are planned anyway ..... Those few thatch & plywood structures are no big loss. Is this a Govt facility or private shacks? Why is this a story?
"Reduce the national debt" will become the byword for real. The PLP hoodwinked us with VAT, the FNM increased it and now the PLP has the new normal VAT. ...... More tricks to come as the $$$ screws tighten.
I agree. Hold the ill-disciplined government officers accountable. Regardless of what Department they work in. We need to be able to hold Cabinet accountable too. Voting once per 5 years is not good enough.
How can Dept of Stats help MOE, if there hasn't even been a census since 2010? I feel sorry for our children if GHM continues to keep those same old technocrats in MOE. Virtual school, internet, teacher shortage, and parental involvement are the biggest issues. DOStats can't do much right now. MOE should have its own stats on the schools, kids, teachers, parents etc.

Halkitis and the other well greased PLPs don't care about the poor Bahamians. They only talk to hear themselves, but do very little to help.

Our Govt lied about paying down on national debt from Day One. Now, it's almost out of hand as we approach 100% debt:GDP ratio. IMF will step in soon.
