Talk is cheap ....... Romer is only parroting Chester. He is a smooth talker, just like his boss.
LI airport was ready to start in 2021, but due to political victimization, that $18 million project got railroaded and other airport projects have since been completed, launched or promised.
The SOE workers get paid the highest salaries, get the best insurance coverage, get the best end of year perks and get the best payout or pension packages in the country .......... and 90% of these SOEs are either bankrupt or totally dependent on Govt subsidies to function month to month.
It is time for the Govt to deregulate & privatize MOST of these failing SOEs - starting with bpl, wsc & Bahamasair
Set up a plane service that operates just like the mailboat service. The Govt already works with private operators to service the Family Islands. It can work in the air as well.
Allow the private sector to thrive & compete, while keeping airfare prices at a reasonable rate per island.
How can a Chinese owned hotel continue to use a name such as "British Colonial", when it's imperial masters in China erased Hong Kong from its British traditions as soon as the land lease was up?
Bahamians are really strange when it comes to holding on to European ties ...... Like the OECD financial domination and Westminster political system etc.
Freeing ourselves from mental slavery begins with electing leaders who can create a true true Bahamian VISION for the way forward beyond this hollow Jubilee year.
The PM and his Cabinet has too much power to appoint senior public officials (GG to judges) and as a result, there is way too much political interference and bias in our little society.
Just look at who runs the Judiciary today ....... A guy who used to work for the PM. And who are most of the new KCs????
But, as Minister of Finance, has this PM and the three PMs who were also Ministers of Finance been accountable and transparent to the Bahamian citizens about the Public Treasury revenue & expenditure???
The gap between the Budget debates & the reality of the usage of public funds (in the public interest) has been widening each year for at least two decades.
Simply put, Bahamians nor international agencies can believe our politicians when it comes to the proper use of our public finances.
The biggest issues are that faulty pipe construction and poorly trained WSC staff (who are overpaid) compound the reality of foreign owned RO that control our potable water business.
The Govt is in a Catch22 situation with WSC ........ Like all other SOEs that burden our country.
Not ONE media expert in this country wants to open the Pandora's box of WHAT is really been done to convert our carbon credits resources to tangible value added for Bahamian citizens.
We are hearing the stories of how the PM is setting up legislation to STEAL our carbon credits revenue for the inner circle of the political elite. ...... Where is the investigative journalism on this critical issue that will affect the ordinary man on the streets.
