The government needs to hire reputable contractors who can do a reasonable estimation in order to put in an informed bid. If a fixed sum contract was signed then it is the contractor responsibility to finish the work, if a cost plus type of contract was signed then the contractor should still finish the work and bill the government for the remainder that is owed. In any event the work should get finish once stated.
He was better off saying nothing. He said as an engineer he knows it was possible, but as a project manager, I say it was done backwards, get the approval first and then sign a letter of intent. Even though he is probably making up excuses, a lot of companies have problems with projects because they have someone with the technical expertise doing the job of a project manager.
If that is third world thinking then the whole world is third world. I'm not saying that we shouldn't get past color but this world is full of discrimination and who can't see is blind.
I'm in no way trying to take up for Christie but he wasn't talking about whether or not he is competent enough to run a black party but he was referring to whether he was likable enough to garner black votes. Let's not pretend most people in the Bahamas and around the world tend more to vote for a person that is the same color of their skin unless the other party was that bad. In Barack Obama case the republican was that bad and the democrats had a woman as his competition and let us not pretend that people would rather vote for a man whether black or white before voting for a woman.
The tribune is trying to make news about this; Firstly, this not the first rumor of bribery about our government officials and no police investigation was launch then so why would you think one would be launch now. Secondly, this thing happened more than ten years ago and it have to be a statue of limitation on this as far as any criminal doing is concerned. This one of the reason why the FOI act is needed and neither the PLP or FNM will allow it to come to pass because they don't want the gravy train to come to an end.
The only way the Bahamas will get the FOIA is for them to vote in a new party that didn't had their hands dirty and still that might not be enough because if that party wants to get their hands dirty they wouldn't even entertain such an act.
He cannot be that blind to think that kind of things is going on in the Bahamas. He knows nothing will ever come out of this so he is trying to save face and look innocent. On a side note whomever took that bribe was probably a first time offender at that particular time because $300,000 is peanuts to take for a contract of that size especially spread out over so many years.
The bad thing about a country that is small like the Bahamas and have the mindset as the people in the Bahamas is no government will have the courage to make the big decision and sell those companies because whoever buy the company will definitely cut staff in an attempt to be profitable and that will cost that party that sold the company the next election for sure. I blame the government for all the corruption by taking kickbacks and not having any vision for the future of the Bahamas but I blame the people for not understanding good business decision and what is good for the country in the long run and in a way forcing the government to make bad decision in fear of being voted out.
