Unfortunately, the "dream police" are some of the biggest offenders when it comes to littering and breaking the law in general, but then look at the recruitment pool available, the same D average illiterates that are the root of this and many other social problems that plague us! This is neither an FNM nor PLP joke rather a "joke" perpetrated on Bahamians by ourselves, we have met the enemy and it is us!
@K4C, actually the current government has done a fairly good job at cleaning up the island, the problem is, as has always been, as fast as the garbage is removed our slovenly, ignorant and disgusting people replace it with new, even in their own communities and neighborhoods. When the litter laws are enforced with fines with teeth and the perps are named, shamed and put on the streets to clean up what they threw there, then we might see a change in attitude but I won't be holding my breath.
It's quite obvious that not many of those commenting have ever had to make payroll every week, pay BPL, business licence, real property tax, NIB, customs, take into account the daily teifin and still have to pay for a work permit because a large percentage of our so called workforce next to illiterate and have little to no work ethic. Sad...................
The irony of it is that they won't let you subscribe legally if you live outside of the US and if you are using a Bahamian issued credit card. If you have a US address or hiding behind a VPN you have a chance, that why we're relegated to watching lousy ZNS or Cable Bahamas with ESPN Caribbean and other like channels with endless cricket and reruns or using IPTV or ISD's if we wish to have programming worth watching.
Actually, to give Mr. Maura his due he has a wealth of experience in the shipping industry from his many years with Tropical Shipping Co and as Managing Director of Arawak Port Development.
True that we are our brothers keepers Diver but Naughtydread has a point. For a population of roughly 80-90 people the government, aka taxpayers, must provide a power station and distribution, water production and distribution, read RO plant, telecommunications, read tower, a mail boat dock and dredging just to name a few. That adds up to a hell of a lot more than a couple of small buildings for a school or clinic. Added to that the residents, and Chester Cooper apparently, expect the government to subsidize them in the rebuilding of their personal property, don't seem to recall any charity of that sort being extended to the people of Southern Long Island many of whom are still trying to piece their lives and properties together after Hurricane Joaquin. The government should encourage those few residents to relocate, provide land grants and duty free status for construction and building materials on larger more populated islands that already have the necessary infrastructure in place. The next major hurricane is just around the corner with predictable results.
Yet when Jimmy Palacious and Dick Lightbourne was suggesting that yinna having too many chirren an should tie ya tubes yinna run dem. Go figure.....................
