Smith has been on the gravy train living off of us taxpayers for decades and now he has the temerity, knowing many of us are all but underwater, to say it's time for us to give back. He should be shown the entrance door to the nearest nursing home, and I don't mean one funded with taxpayer money!
Couldn't agree with you more. Minnis should have liquidated BOB while he had the opportunity to do so shortly after his national general election win in May 2017. Just another one of his many, many, many, missed opportunities to do something right and good for the Bahamian people.
The last thing our corrupt elected officials need is a government controlled bank. It's a magnet for outright fraudulent lending practices of the worst possible kind involving the corrupt political elite and other public officials, and Kenrick Brathwaite knows it.
Kenrick should step aside if he can't bring himself to acknowledge that lifting the current restrictions will only result in Bahamian taxpayers be royally screwed through another round of government bail-outs. The bail-out rounds to date have already cost taxpayers well over $500,000,000 ($500 million dollars).
Minnis lowered the coffin of the FNM party into the very deep hole in the ground that he personally dug. Now let's see if Minnis, with Culmer's help, will foolishly engineer a leaderhip win by Thompson or Lewis. Both of these candidates are certainly very capable of shoveling plenty dirt and soil into the Minnis dug hole to fully bury the FNM party coffin so that a simple tombstone can than be erected on the grave that reads "R.I.P Forevermore."
Forget the pandemic. What's much more important is getting an answer to the following question:
Where did the nearly $3,000,000,000 ($3 billion dollars) go that the last Minnis led FNM government borrow in addition to the many millions of dollars that was collected from Bahamian taxpayers in form of VAT, customs duties, stamp taxes, excise taxes and many other taxes and fees?
The level of government corruption has now reached the point where the Bahamian people should be sending a loud and clear message to the IMF, World Bank, IDB and international lenders generally that we will not consider ourselves and our nation responsible for their irresponsible lending practices.
These lenders are literally and knowingly feeding the corruption of known corrupt government officials with their grossly irresponsible lending practices and expect the Bahamian people to be on the hook for repayment of their loans. It's simply wrong and injust by every definition!
Three simple words: outright fraudulent activities!!
And PM Minnis at the time made sure the lid was kept on it with the help of Auditor General Bastian. It seems with Minnis no longer PM, Bastian is only all too willing to sing for his supper.
