Rothschild & Co is not a big player in the global capital markets according to most independent rankings of financial institutions that swim in that fish bowl. They are a relatively small advisory shop in the grand scheme of things, but I agree they are notoriously ruthless and have been involved in a number of high profile scandals over the years. Their stumbles usually receive much publicity because of the infamous family name.
Rampant out-of-control crime in a nation typically results from decades of unchecked government corruption by members of an elitist political ruling class who favour political power and the accumulation of great personal wealth at the expense of sound economic and social policies for the benefit of the citizenry. That's just a simple fact, but you're certainly entitled to whatever views you may hold about the bigger picture behind our country's dire violent crime situation.
Unfortunately, our incompetent police officials are well known to botch-up the evidence gathering process and all too frequently fail to make an appearance in court as if deliberately seeking to achieve a desired acquittal outcome for the charged criminal.
Our central bank governor, **John Rolle**, is ominously silent about all that is going on here, which leaves one to wonder whether he has been told he does not have too many days left as governor before being replaced by someone of **Davis's**, or possibly **James Smith** and **Anthony Ferguson's**, choosing. And of course, one cannot help but also wonder if **John Rolle** already knows who his next employer is likely to be.
> Tribune Business reported that Rothschild & Co’s hiring could ultimately lead to a major “refinancing” of the Government’s debt, but this is different from a “restructuring” which Mr Wilson ruled out. For example, rather than issue new sovereign debt, the Government could seek to consolidate existing bond issues via a collective multi-billion refinancing that would help establish “a benchmark yield” for all Bahamas issues traded on the international capital markets.
>Meanwhile, more sources confirmed that Rothschild & Co is indeed the debt advisory firm selected by The Bahamas as the Government’s political opponents demanded full transparency and disclosure surrounding the firm’s hiring, the role it will play and responsibilities handled, as well as the Terms of Reference handed to it.
It seems Wilson is rightfully unhappy that the likes of Anthony Ferguson, James Smith and Emanuel Alexiou have indiscreetly put blood in the water for the sharks like The Rothschild family and their friends in the international sovereign debt markets to feast on. Deliberate leaks to the press on matters like this are not good to say the very least.
Unfortunately, Wilson's semantics and nuances over "refinancing" versus "restructuring" which are intended as damage control are quite meaningless to the sharks and their friends.
And Davis seems not to know that he has our small nation swimming with local piranhas who are seeking to greatly profit from our serious national debt woes, even if it means what's left of our carcass ends up getting picked clean.
What caused the contamination? What is the nature of the illness and symptoms one would experience from their consumption? How long does the public need to wait before buying sweet potatoes again?
Chop, chop, Tribune; there's more reporting to be done in the public's interest.
There's very big money for certain of our senior government officials in 'selling' work permits to illegal Haitian nationals who should not be receiving them.
The wrongful (illegal) selling of these permits by corrupt Bahamian government officials is allowing thousands and thousands of illegal Haitian nationals to wrongfully remain in our country.
And this illegal activity only serves to embolden other Haitian nationals to illegally come to our shores as a stepping-stone to eventually getting into the U.S.
But the likes of Davis, Bell, Mitchell and others are refusing to clamp down on all the corruption surrounding the illegal 'selling' of permits to those who have entered our country illegally.
All poor and struggling Bahamians should just be sickened to their stomachs by Keith Bell's virtue signalling to illegal Haitian nationals in our country:
> Labour and Immigration Minister Keith Bell ......promised survivors would be treated humanely.
> “We want to be humane about what we do and how we do things given the tragedy...."
> Mr Bell said counsellors from the local Haitian community have been engaged to provide grief therapy to the survivors.
> Asked yesterday when the nationals are expected to be repatriated, Mr Bell said exercises will begin once investigations have been completed. However, he also explained that repatriations of the Haitians will not happen right away.
> .....he also explained that repatriations of the Haitians will not happen right away.
> “But as it stands now, let me say that at the detention centre, we have a total of 27 **irregular** (as opposed to **illegal**) migrants of Haitian descent."
> Mr Bell said officials will continue to utilise every effort to recover remains where possible.
> “We will be out there,” the minister said when asked when officials intend to call off the search.
This level of virtue signalling by the Davis led PLP government to our very large illegal Haitian community should tell all poor and struggling Bahamians a great deal about where they stand today on the totem pole of importance in their very own country. Yes indeed, suffering Bahamians are now the 'second fiddle' class of people in their own Bahamaland.
