One, he wants 15,000 rooms by large properties owned by foreign investors? Dumb! We need to start thinking getting more boutique hotels in play owned by residents. That way, more of the money stays here and the country really benefits as a whole. Also, why is the only thing every government focuses on is tourism. I know it's the main industry but we need to be putting seeds in the ground for other industries. We need politicians who are not short sighted and who have some intellect to grasp the bigger picture. We elect too many small minded idiots who don't know and don't care to know about moving this country forward. Ignorance in a banana republic styled country only equips us to handle bananas.

This is sickening. URCA is a rubber stamp. I filed a complaint months ago and they haven't even acknowledged receipt of it. They are not regulating anyone. This single bid nonsense is just a flagrant abuse by the government. We know who is behind FOCOL and we know that is also a major donor for the current government's election campaigns. So, this is more about ensuring their people get the lion share of contracts. This isn't about best bids or what is good for the country. We see yesterday the story of 40% of BPL being sold. Once again the deal circles back to the same people. This government is a sickening disgrace. They don't have the Shame in their minds to realize this shouldn't even be so utterly obvious the flagrant disregard they have for the Bahamian people. This is piracy. Plunder! Plunder! Plunder!

Inflation is one thing, price gouging is another. I don't think the cost of items here are solely driven by increased costs on the global market. In the midst of the pandemic the costs of grocery for example went up dramatically and store owners blamed it on supply chain issues and costs of shipping. But, we don't have supply chain issues anymore and until recently there was a huge drop in shipping costs buy no change in the costs of goods in the stores. If we have some sort of fair pricing mechanism this would be of greater value to the average consumer. If you increase wages by 50% and there isn't a check on the price of goods and services and this allowed to increase by 80%, you still have a problem. Store owners bank on yh4 fact that if you need something, ypu will find the money to pay for it no matter how much it costs.

Although, Mr. Minnis isn't the best person to deliver this message, lol, he is correct. Mr. Wilson should be punished for his behavior. You can not send a message that your Funancial Secretary is a thug. He is the highest ranked civil servant in the Ministry of Finance that the country 3xpects to be the gatekeeper of our money. So, he should be held to the highest standard. It's quite serious that we tell young guys they need to resolve conflicts peacefully yet we have a middle aged professional looking to get in an old fashioned street brawl because he didn't like the approach from a reporter. I would admit the reporter probably wanted to provoke him. But, a professional wouldn't have stooped to the level of fighting. This is grossly unacceptable. The PM consistently shows he has no interest in running this country or keeping his team in line. I think he just wanted to have PM on his resume. After that the country could go to hell.

Why does this seem like a game of smoke and mirrors? This while deal needs to be spelt out in detail to Bahamian taxpayers.

Ummmm. Interesting! I think the reporter and the Financial Secretary should be penalized here. The reporter was provoking the Financial Secretary. There are more professional, diplomatic ways of asking the same question without outright calling the Financial Secretary a liar. On the other hand, the Financial Secretary, as a professional should not try to turn a press attack into a street brawl. Understandably, a lot of people would take offense to being called a liar. However, as the number 2 person (the main non-politician) in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Wilson's behavior should have drawn some sort of punishment. There should have been an official statement by the government addressing his reaction. We can not talk to young men about conflict resolution and anger management and then pretend that Mr. Wilson's behavior is fine.

The legislation is trash. I agree with Mr. Ritchie. There is a sensible way to approach unlicensed and uninsured vehicles as done in other countries. Whoever came up with this current nonsense should not be allowed near Parliament again to draft legislation.

trueBahamian says...

🤦‍♂️ Is she serious? The issue isn't about the month when you get insurance, it's people not having insurance. What idiotic nonsense. Penalize people for not having insurance. This is lunacy to create legislation to force people to pay insurance in their birth months. So, now you have to sort out your insurance then battle Road Traffic in the same month. All the actual legislation we need we can't get but these people find time to put in place that does zero to address the actual issue here, uninsured/unlicensed vehicles. So, after this law goes into effect she assumes people somehow will not be on the road uninsured or without a car license. She can't be serious. This is the danger of putting certain people in political posts. They frustrate a situation instead of fixing it.

👀 Pilots are afraid to take an exam about flying? Should we be concerned?

It's great that he defeated the former PM, Minnis. It's definitely time for a new face. I'm not sure how he will fare as PM but given what we've had in the last decade, the bar is pretty low. From the lack of negative press about his character, we can assume he's at least a good person or better said, a clean politician. I sincerely hope that he can get the right people behind him and that they can win the next election and start to turn this country around. The current PM is on rockstar party mode since 2021. Someone forgot to tell him he needs to govern this country. The million dollar question is, who is at the wheel? Is it our hot tempered Minister of Foreign Affairs, the frequent flyer miles politician?
