Why are we spending money we don't have on campaigns to spin a positive image? The best idea is to spend that money on addressing crime. Is he serious? He's playing numbers and doing PR. Cut the nonsense and fix the underlying problem. As some folks commented yesterday, you want to make the tourists feel safe while they are here and do our best to ensure that but what about the people that live here. Shouldn't the taxpaying citizens be entitled 5o a safe country?

It galls me that the gross incompetent politicians spend so much time spewing statements that have zero benefit for the country. We have a crime issue. We have put of control government spending. We have a civil service that needs to be cut in half. Put in place a crime plan that actually shows you know what you are doing. Put in place austerity measures. Run the country instead of pretending to do so.

Today, we say print this there instead of here. Tomorrow it's you can only go here and not there. The day after, it's agree with me or there will be consequences. Dictatorships don't always begin with the iron fists. Idi Amin looked like a man of the people at the beginning.

Ok. Lol. Why does a leader of a country make a request to the media and tell them that they must think of their country before putting stories about crime on the front page. Seems a lot stronger than a request. You do realize birdie that anywhere on this planet, in a supposedly democratic country, that doesn't look good, right?

If he makes a request to shutdown the streets, what do you think happens? Last I checked his requests, given his position isn't a request. Maybe a head of state isn't a head of state. Censorship by any other name is still censorship. Let's assume that first world.nations know how to gather Intel. If they do, I'm going to guess they are not looking for the print media to deliver the paper then only look at the front page. Just as this sounds nonsensical, it's just why the reason for his "request" is absurd.

Why are asking what rock the PM is under? His under a rock called "bliss". Lol. He must have been having a really bad day yesterday. That was a very dangerous statement he made from a democratic standpoint. I think he forgot that giving the impression that you are prepared to suppress the media may translate more negatively than the crime wave. It suggests the growing buds of a totalitarian regime.

It's good to see that we are embarking on such a program. A lot of lives can be saved here. The biggest challenge is getting it set up the right way and ensuring that the facilities are up to standards. He mentioned a new hospital to be setup. Sounds good. PMH would be a terrible option right now for that. The place don't look sanitary enough for cuts and bruises, so imagine something like this.

I think this is a positive step forward. They just need to make sure they get it right from the start.

Lol. It rough here. There are some elements in John's comments that are true. Imprisoning someone for small.amounts of marijuana doesn't serve any benefit to.the state. It only creates a scenario for that individual to slip further and further. You take potentially a good person and you transform them into someone hardened and angry and you take away employment and movement which creates the recipe for a serious criminal.

trueBahamian says...

Lol. Can you imagine someone reading this and thinking that guy is talking censorship of.the press. That's going to cause more of a stir than the crime issue. Now tourist start to think this is a failed state.

trueBahamian says...

I'm not sure why we keep going down this nonsensical road of more taxes. A deficit is a loss. A surplus is a profit
The idea is to get to a surplus (profit). You have a deficit when your expenses exceeds your income. To break even or get to a surplus you either need to increase revenue or reduce expenses or both. So, why is the focus on revenue. Every government knows the real issue is the cost of the public service. The true solution is a reduction of the headcount of the public service. Also, this government is spending like crazy knowing fully well we have a deficit. They're also creating jobs out of thin air for loyal party supporters who have to be paid. So, if you really, seriously want to fix the national financial problem you have to stop adding to it. Take a red oen and go through the public service and we will be at a surplus in no time. Once the government only spends what it needs to spend we will be in track to pay down the national debt. This country is small enough that it can easily be ran as a company. Anyone serious enough to run this country can righ TV thi svc ship un a few years. You can't hire incompetent CEOs and expect things to go well.

Lol. It's censorship of.the press. The US and Canadian governments didn't place a travel advisory because the crime information was on the front page. This guy! Lol.

trueBahamian says...

This is interesting! A lot of countries don't place crimes on the front page of their newspapers because an incident isn't relevant in the context of their population. If you have 250 million people a handful of murders on a given day does not move the needle to be a major event to capture the front page of a paper. But, when you have a similar amount of murders happening in a very small country it is a major event that will warrant a front page coverage. The PM is being a little naive or thinks the population is, it doesn't matter where you place it in the papers, governments will advise their people it's an issue. Do you think if the local papers put it deep in paper the US Embassy won't know there is a crime problem? It is idiotic to think placement in a paper is the issue here. It's laughable the PM would say something so silly. That spells he has no strategy to combat crime. If there was a strategy you don't need to tell the papers where to place a story or how to write or to check with him if they can do it or not. He's trying to censor the press. It begins with the message hurts tourism. It will continue to other things as he doesn't want to show they don't have control. Crime is bad and they're spending money like no tomorrow but the country is running deficit after deficit. Mr. Davis please run the country and do what you said you would do. Don't look around to see who you can blame for something to make it seem as if you're less incompetent.
