It's good to see these talks going on. Would be better to see the police focused on violent crime instead. Yes, AML issues can be connected to major offenses. But, I would prefer to see an article on talks with experts on what the hell they are doing wrong in the fight against crime. To be fair the AG office, the courts and the legislative arm need to do something. It's ridiculous!

Some rough comments here. If the Minister is sincere about this idea, it would be a very positive step. Society would benefit from former inmates changing their lives for the better. We don't need to have repeat offenders. It would be good to turn an inmate to a contributing member of society.

trueBahamian says...

Interesting! That all sounds nice. It just so amazing that

1. None of that got done during this term.

2. If they have an idea to.improve the Covid pandemic item, why not do that now while you are in the middle of a crisis?

3. Where are we going to get the money from for these ideas?

More importantly, going back to my first point, if they had so many great ideas to implement to benefit the nation, some of these should have already been implemented. That's not to give a point to the current opposition. I am sure their manifesto promises a lot as always. Everybody promising things and in their history they've shown they don't deliver.

Can we get people who actually care about the country?

trueBahamian says...

I had expected something different from Alicia. Maybe I'm being unfair. I understand the point of demanding more from those offering themselves for positions of leadership, but something here is fundamentally flawed. Why in the midst of a medical emergency are we having an election? Isn't the very health and safety of our population the most paramount thing right now? How do we have a snap election when people are sick and dying with no.end in sight? How do campaigns go on with risk of expsoure? How do we hold elections in voting booths, etc. when we can not guarantee the safety to place such votes?

Why are in 2021 September 16th casting votes when people are dying like dogs in our healthcare system because our resources are strained and we have no solution to the problem? But, someone in their wisdom believed that now is the time to have an election.

We need living citizens. We need people to take care of their loved ones. We need to have hope for a better tomorrow. No one is standing up and challenging this complete insanity. We have former leaders looking for photo ops instead of showing that they give a damn about our country or our people. This is a disgrace.

This is a sad, sad, sad, sad, sad, dark day in our history.

trueBahamian says...

How in the midst of a medical catastrophe are we having an election? How do Mr. Ingraham and Mr. Christie take photos and keep.their mouths closed? If there was ever a time in our history to remove a leader, to.peak out and take back our country, now is.the time. It's not time for.people to play politics. People are dying. The country is in shambles medically. This is election is a statement of arrogance and a total lack of concern for the lives of our fellow countrymen. This is a disgrace and should be stated as such. Instead of photo ops, Mr. Ingraham, Mr. Christie and Mr. Davisn should be making moves to stop this and calling for.the immediate removal of De. Minnis. This decision will go down in infamy in Bahamian history. I hope that the photos of these 3 men who stood.by and watch are etched in this dark day in our history.

Wow! We shouldn't have a team in Tokyo with whose competing undecided. This is disrespectful to both ladies. To have them compete for a spot while there can not be good for them mentally while they are focusing on competing.

I'm not sure why the only response the government has to this problem is adjusting curfew hours and lockdowns. Realistically, the country can stay open and we just simply increase testing. As an example, if someone wants to go out on the weekends, they need to show evidence of a negative reading for a rapid antigen test on a weekly basis. This would allow the economy to be open and minimize the spread. Simply locking the country down and adjusting curfew destroys the economy and doesn't address the issue. Also, the new delta variant is a problem for the vaccinated as well. So, the guidance given for vaccinated people is totally incorrect given what is known now. We're also allowing tourist to come in and move about the hotel properties without restrictions, which in itself can increase the spread. So, like I said, test our way out of this situation. Citizens like us have to continually endure the idiocy of bad decisions by the government.

It appears no one edit these articles. I see a lot of mistakes here. With regards to some healthcare workers not being vaccinated, shouldn't the journalist here mention what are some the reasons (this is separate from the before mentioned mistakes).

There is disconnect between the Minister and the Chief Medical Officer. They are clearly not on the same page.

The numbers are incrasing but the response is not the correct one. A curfew will not solve a problem and a lockdown will destroy the economy. Mr. Roberts speaks of people not listening. Is it as simple as that?

One solution is testing. If someone wants to go out, let's say, require a negative rapid antigen test taken within the last 5 days. so, every week they have to show an updated test. this solves two problems, you minimize the spread in certain settings as most people who test negative during a given week should be negative. Anyone who is negative one week should have a positive test the next week or early into the third week. The second benefit, we are reducing the unknown. By flagging at least those going out who may be positive, we can isolate them and reduce them spreading the virus among their contacts. Not having this test, they will not know they are positive and they will spread it among everyone they know. one unfortunate consequence of course is that if someone can't afford a test, they will not be allowed to go out which gives an additional benefit because if they are positive, it limits how many extra people they can infect and if they are negative they can't get exposed.

trueBahamian says...

Not sure why we have adjusted the curfew hours. That will not impact the spread. We need to increase testing. It as simple as that. If people want to go out to bars/clubs, etc. require that they produce evidence of a negative rapid antigen test. Require every week that they have an updated test. You will some cases because some persons may test negative this week and be positive the next. But, they will be flagged the next week. The government would then have a clearer picture of the level of infection in the country as well as you would have more persons tested.
