🙄 O...k. We should applaud a supposed decline now? The numbers we see daily is around the total we.had up to June 30th. So, let's not applaud a disaster. The July 1st reopening is why we're here now.

Lockdowns don't solve the problem. You lock people in their homes for the weekend and have 7pm evening curfews. So, you really think this will solve the problem? The problem is better managed from increasing testing and contact tracing. If you look at the number of tests done.and the number of infections, we.can clearly see.the government is failing. By their own data, they have shown it's a disaster. Is the PM increasing medical resources (personnel, test kits, etc.)? Has the PM ordered the Ministry of Health to increase personnel for contact tracing?

If you identify more people infected or who were exposed to someone infected and ask them to quarantine and properly monitor them, the numbers will go down. You don't need a lockdown for this. This is not medical ingenuity. It's commonsense. The WHO said this iver and repeatedly. Why are we still stuck on lockdowns and curfews instead of actually attacking the problem. You have to control the virus, not control people. It seems the PM doesn't understand the difference.

Didn't Mr. Bannister mention the other day that they wanted to spend $20 million to build sidewalks? If you can find $20 million for sidewalks, you should be able to pay your creditors.

trueBahamian says...

Hopefully Mr. Bannister gets well soon. It's interesting that we hear how Bahamians are not listening and doing their own thing and that's why we're not getting the numbers down. Then we hear Mr. Bannister did an interview with reporters without a mask.

Why are more and more politicians testing positive? Given the PM's statements about the population, then some of these guys are going to parties.

So...the weekend lockdown isn't working? But, we're reopened for tourism, which allows locals to travel to Miami. Interesting!

trueBahamian says...

Why did the PM waste time going on about technology and being with family. Cut through the bull and simply say that Dr. Brennen has handed in his resignation and is completing the last weeks or couple months of his employment with the Ministry of Health. It just looks horrible to see the PM just spew this dribble. People leave because of better opportunities or because they were not treated fairly. Be a man, grow up and just admit that the man has left the public service. Dang!

Amen!

It's interesting the environmental impact is only covered here in the comments section and not laid out by the Tribune. What kind of journalism is this that we're getting? No environmental side to the article. Zero!

Can someone find some real journalists?

People don't have food. Poor kids don't have access to education in this pandemic. Healthcare is poor or nonexistent in some parts of the country. But, we have an urgent need for sidewalks. Very interesting.

So, what's the truth here? Is it the creation of employment to hustle a few votes? Is it a distasteful way to steal money from the public purse during such tough economic times? Clearly, it's not because sidewalks are the most urgent item in the midst of a health crisis.

trueBahamian says...

Thank goodness we're reopening to increase the spread. The government is ensuring we're on track to have everybody infected.

trueBahamian says...

They know this already. It's a game to appear to do something. What they will do is increase the number of injections. We do know Bahamians will travel, some of whom will return infected. Also, the trickle of tourists to come in will have some hits in terms of infection and this will add to our problem.

We've got a real life version of "Dumb and Dumber" playing out with the PM and the Minister of Tourism.
