These numbers will probably be consistent with a lot of countries around the globe. A lot of people are unemployed. A lot of countries have reported an increase in cases if domestic abuse.
I would agree with "tribanon", we should be hearing this from the government. To be frank, we've become Americanized. We are consumers with a huge appetite for material things. So, like our American counterparts, we don't save. Then when something happens, like a recession, we're in bad shape. Every economic downturn has the same look in terms of people losing jobs and ensuring hardship. So, why every time the same people keep getting caught in the same cycle. I can understand someone who is only making enough to cover the bare essentials or the essentials and ine or teo "wants". But, we have individuals who are well paid which end up in the same both as their fellow countrymen who're making minimum wage. It's just unbelievable. Some people can have unforeseen circumstances that can impact their savings, but everyone who can save isn't impacted by unforeseen circumstances.
Water is a necessity. This one, perhaps shouldn't be privatised. One way to reduce the burden is to reduce headcount. If you have 200 people employed and you only need 100, make.that adjustment. It's not fair to look to the people to pay the full bill of the cost of running Water and Sewerage if the government isn't trimming the wastage in spending (inclusive of too much staff). Also, keep in mind we're not getting good service from Water and Sewerage. So, thinking about increasing the cost to consumers is insane.
Why do we have Bahamasair? What service are they providing that can't be provided by any other carrier?
Every day we see government wasting taxpayer money. It could be as simple as the "red plated" cars driving on the streets in the wee hours of the morning or on weekends when we know with a certainty they're not doing government business. This is gas bill, wear and.tear that leads to increased maintenance costs. Also, it may even show that the government has too many cars avaialble. Reduce costs people. Tighten the belt!
Wow! Mr. Bowe is clearly frustrated and rightly so. We live in a country that was ranked lower than the West Bank and Gaza Strip for ease of doing business. Think about that for a second. As a Bahamian who loves his country, I see that we are a disaster. We're suffering from the mistakes of several administrations with the hiring of people for votes who are completely inept or lazy or both. We also hire others in the public service who are just collecting a paycheck. These individuals clog the system. There obstacles rather than solutions to regular BAU processes. Added to that the system has layers and layers added to it that adds no value and no one sits for a second to ask, why do we need all of this? Added.to that and as an agreement to one of Mr. Bowe's point, the worker bees can't see the correlation between movements in the process and their continued employment.
I'm sick and tired of what we became. We're a disgrace. A oval joke from PM down to every last citizen. Our leaders don't have a clue and they surround themselves with the lost and the "suck ups". True Banana Republic style!
I'll take whatever passport from a first would nation that o can get. This country is a real life sitcom.
On the "Mr. Johnson" bit, is this a hint that there could be an act of corruption? Maybe while involved in electrical work, he gets insights (light bulb moment) into fixing other problems. 🙂
Even if you can lay fiber optic cables, the question is, can you do it in time? This is a long, sad process.
It's really sad how the kids are impacted by this whole crisis. It seems that globally countries are trying to figure out how to get kids back to school (virtual and in-person).
She said how surprised she was along with her management team about this sudden change from the Ministry of Education. She goes on to tell of the challenges she sees. But, what is interesting is she takes the time to go to the media, but you don't see any mention of the fact that she spoke to the Minister to see if he would reconsider his position.
She is a union leader who isn't shy of a fight. So, why go first to the media before talking to the Ministry. Is it about hoping to solve an issue or is it about getting in the media? Do we have to tell her, if the Ministry isn't being reasonable she needs to stand up for her people? It seems she is working her own personal angle here.
Church are allowed to stream online. Theybare also allowed to have 10 persons to attend church. So, if they want to deliver a message to their congregation, they can do online. With all the challenges of Covid-19, the religious community want to focus on the collection plate rather than people's health.
The Minister of National Security is more concerned about air time than he is about solving crime. We have drones. Are we using them? In Nassau we have shotspotter technology, but there doesn't appear to be any improvement in police response.
That's useful information. So, we are now discussing airconditioners as devices that aid in the transmission of Covid-19. More information is always better. Hopefully with this information we (globally) can add this to assist in the control of Covid-19.
