To announce a lockdown at 8pm with immediate effect when the foodstores closed at 7pm is without conscience. There would be a multitude of our brothers and sisters who were caught unprepared. There is a real risk that people will starve. People may not have water. Some persons who are medicated may not have medication on hand. As a doctor, he knows better than anyone that some medication means life or death for some people. This is a grave situation. His leadership, or lack there of, is not what we need in these times of crisis. A man from humble beginnings forgot that the humble among us may very well die, not from Covid-19, but from poor leadership.

He has instructed the police to enforce this lockdown. They are essentially enforcing the violation of the very basic rights of our people. I don't fault the police, as they have to follow orders, but I hope they approach their task from a position of compassion. We are all brothers a d sisters in this struggle. Our leaders are lost in the delusions of their power. We must rise up, let.our voices be heard and take back our rights.

The PM should not announce lockdown effective immediately knowing full well.that some people did not have a chance to prepare. You have to factor in some people don't have medication, food and water. Some households have small kids, infants even. The solution to a problem isn't to create other problems. We can agree or disagree on lockdowns. But, we can all agree that you should give people a day or two to prepare themselves. This was not thought through and shows his incompetence to govern.

Let's hope D'Aguilar doesn't have input here. After that CNN interview, I wouldn't have him order supplies for the Ministry of Tourism. That interview showed that he is grossly deficient intellectually. If he had an input here, we probably gave away the entire GB and promised to pay Royal Caribbean and ITM for taking it.

It's going to be a long journey to say the least. If they.dont have timely results and are not properly contact tracing, then logically everyone needs to sit down and figure out how to fix this situation. If they need more people and better tools, then provide it. I going to guess they're not getting what they need. Keep in mind, doctors were on strike because of pay. Nurses, some years back, were on strike because they didn't have health coverage. It's not easy being in the public healthcare system in this country. There are issues with the personnel as well, you can be sure of that too. But, they're treated terribly.

We shouldn't call her crazy. Let's be fair. Have you seen what doctors have to work with in this country? She may be doing the best she could. But, when you have a PM living in another world making decisions and you have next to zero resources, it's tough.

The reopening was.clearly a disaster. Commonsense suggests that with reopening you will have a spike, so whatever things you had in place you have to increase those resources and new controls added. To shut the hotline down, the quarantine site, etc and then reopen someone has to ask, "what the hell was he thinking?" We're in trouble. Simple things they're not getting.Aso, we're at 1,252 cases but as I understand we're late in getting results. So, we're probably at the 2,000 mark and don't know yet. The government needs to get serious in how to manage. This is a tough situation, but you have information all around the globe you can tap into. Have conversations with the right people within the country and come to a sensible solution. Clearly whomever is providing advice to him.on Covid-19 he needs to fire that person or persons.

Something is odd here. How many times in the history of this country have we seen the Financial Secretary from the Ministry of Finance in the media? Is Mr. Johnson the unofficial Minister of Finance? Is there a power struggle here?

We (the people) are paying for a government but are getting tickets for the circus.

trueBahamian says...

Late data is definitely a major issue. Listening to US news it appears that they have some similar issues. So, it's struggle. It's time for them to listen to suggestions and work on a better strategy.

While we tackle the medical.side, I'm just pissed at the joke of a committee called the economic recovery committee. Such a waste of time. Such colossal incompetence. I can't believe some of the supposed intellectuals sitting on that committee is allowing their faces to be associated with it. As a buddy pointed out to me, the sitting Central Bank Governor should not be sitting on this committee. It's a conflict. I wonder if he really believes that this dumb idea that is circulating is a smart one. If we will.lose let's say more than 1.5 billion in tourism revenue and someone shows up I believe if two guys and a monkey.arrive here and pay us in bananas we can cover our shortfall. That's how I see the statement from the Financial Secretary. We're in so much trouble.

trueBahamian says...

This committee is a waste of time as expected. The PM should resign. If this is the extent of the recovery conversation, we can all figure out, the government has no clue. Keep in mind this one idea, which is terrible, was actually pitched by someone not on the committee. So, we have about 14 people on a committee with zero ideas. This is the extent of our plans for an economic recovery. We can all figure out they will be paid for this crap or get favors later or both.

This is extremely disturbing. Do the rest of my fellow countrymen not see that our situation is dire. We have a government that's grossly unequipped to handle any national emergency. It's grossly deficient in intellectual talent. It's a roving band of yes men/women and friends. This is textbook banana republic bs. On the other side of the political divide, we have more of the same. Is it time for those of us that can leave this rock to leave?

trueBahamian says...

This is scary. We are in serious trouble. We are in the midst of an economic crisis and we have one dumb idea that can't work that was a suggestion from the population, not even from the committee. Ae will lose potentially over 1 billion in tourism revenue and we have the Financial Secretary said if someone spends $30,000.00 and you a thousand people like that, we have $30 million. This is unbelievable. Where did they find this guy? Can we get smart people who understand economics or at least know what the word "data" means?

Why on earth are we always getting a committee stacked with incompetence and yes men/women? Can someone come up with real plans please?
