Interesting legal sparing between these two ladies. The law is tricky, lawyers can have different interpretations. As someone not in the legal field, I find Dame Joan Sawyer's argument makes a lot of sense logically. If you take any text in isolation, you can make whatever argument you want to make. But, when you take an entire document into consideration, you get an understanding of the context which gives a better understanding of the section that was highlighted.

It would be interesting to hear Dame Anita Allen's response. These kinds of exchanges are what democracy should look like. A sparring of ideas that can lead to clarity on issues and better solutions taken. A solution to a problem that is in itself a problem as well, can not be a solution.

There's definitely a political strategy here. But, put aside that for a second and look at what he's saying. There really isn't a plan here. Pure and simple.

We're in bad shape. We shouldn't expect perfection from the PM for this crisis. A lot of leaders globally are getting their butts kicked. So, he's not alone. The difference here is he's making decisions that are totally detached from reality. They defy logic.

trueBahamian says...

One challenge is this country is that our leaders usually want people around them who agree with them. I don't see the current PM as being any different. If you have people around you that have a backbone and they are some of our brightest minds, we can get better solutions. Mistakes may be made, but we would have less mistakes and less draconian measures implemented.

Like Dr. Sands said s lockdown only makes sense if you have a plan. Clearly there was no plan and there was no thought prior to implementing the lockdown. This was a huge blunder.

He seems bipolar with these orders. Maybe the man was off his meds Monday night.

To keep it respectful, leadership is key in times of crisis. A steady hand, a confident voice and the appearance of a vision beyond the horizon is what people need to see and hear from their leader. In his private circles, his fear, his concerns, his frustration can be heard. But, to a nation, he has to rise above what breaks the average man. A leader has to inspire his people and give them hope. Mr. PM, if you have it within you, listen to the words and follow the actions of great leaders around the world. In the times of crisis, great leaders emerge and weak ones fall.

Look, the man just allow you to get food and medicine, don't push him on car parts. Next thing you know he returns to the lockdown.

The hurricane hit yesterday. It was hurricane "Pissed Off People".

It would be good for this to happen. The question is how will this be done? I believe that if we improve education in this country, you give everyone a fighting chance. If you improve the communities, you give them hope. If you add a decent healthcare system to this, you strengthen them.

I would like to see true change within this country. If every person can have a dream and are given a chance to work on that dream, we can build a better nation.

trueBahamian says...

Wow! This shows how grossly disconnected the PM was. This also illustrates that there was zero consultation. How do you have a lockdown and the support mechanism for isms are not in the loop. You can be sure this isn't the only organization left out of the loop.

The PM is making a lot of mistakes on very basic things.

The Central Bank speaks, wow! With everything going on, this is the major item to speak about. Really? This is a sidebar conversation with the banks and a move on. A side article at best.

We need the Central Bank to speak to the economic situation we're in. We need them tackle the big ticket items that they're there to address. This subject here is like the police arresting a kid for stealing potato chips while helping a serial killer escape.

trueBahamian says...

Wow! So, we get a number that is staffed by the same people who don't check in normal times. The government has failed like the one before them and one before that one and so on.

Can we find some good, intelligent people who understand how to govern this country? Why are we constantly pulling leaders from the cesspool of incompetence?

trueBahamian says...

He needs to speak the truth. The country is in bad shape and they don't have a plan. They don't surround themselves with the brightest minds in our country. They surround themselves with the incompetent, or the "yes men and women". So, we will never get solutions to problems.

Question: Why is the former marketing guy from BTC the Financial Secretary? One example of why we're going down the toilet.
