What's sadder people is how we have all forgotten about 9/11, and how the tourism industry was so greatly affected. This Government and the former still do not have a clue, and this country will continue to suffer because we put these people without true vision in power. We should all be thankful for what the tourism industry has done for this country, but we desperately need to diversify our economy. I have not forgotten the many jobs that were lost when tourist were reluctant to venture out of the US, and i certainly have not forgotten the recent blow to the World's economy which negatively affected tourism wold wide.
I've recently got it here in Nassau and it is extremely fast. You would have to contact them and they will provide you with different cable modem. From the research i did online, its called a DOCSIS 3 cable modem. You should Google it.
Unless something has changed since this story came out, according to news reports, the employees of the RIU are not yet unionized, and trust me, i know first hand how some companies do all within their powers, and reach of their money to block their employees from becoming unionized. "Who feels it, knows it". Our own Bahamian people are constantly selling us out for the mighty dollar. "I am my brother's keeper". I truly empathize with these people, and anyone who's being oppressed in our country!
just attempting to read the responses so far disgust me. This is one of the reasons this country is not progressing, and certainly why "Big business" walk all over Bahamians in this country. Clearly not all protest are warranted, but come on people, why do we have to be in a particular situation ourselves in order to understand, or appreciate what other people are going through? I applaud the bravery of these people! For too long have we allowed foreigners in particular, to treat us as second class. The minister himself said that they have received numerous complaints, and it seems to me that his ministry just could not be bothered in assisting those people. Its situation just like this which lead people to taking more progressive measures like the people of Haiti and Jamaica, because they are made to feel like their Government's simply don't care. Wake up people! They love the division that's in this country. Here it is, you people are speaking out against your own people, not giving one thought or empathizing with what these people are going through. I'm sorry, but most Bahamians are jack assess and the foreigners in particular know it.
Once again Doc Minnis has missed the boat. As usual, he is consumed with just playing politics, just as the PLP did when the FNM was in power. What he is missing is that Mr. Bruner was killed while trying to stop a robbery. This is truly unfortunate, but lets not lose sight of the fact that many Bahamians are getting robbed, and murdered as well. Both the Government and the opposition need to spend less time playing the political game, and make a concerted effort in creating jobs fast! One of the top 10 reasons for crime is poverty, and until this is addressed, we can expect to see the crime levels increase. I wonder what will happen when if in fact the Government gets the number houses to shut down. That will mean additional people will be added to already high unemployment rate, and not to mention the many, many Bahamians that play numbers to supplement their incomes, or those that are already unemployed and simply have no other means but to gamble.
@ Tal Russell, for sometime now i've read the comments that you post, and frankly it appears that you are nothing more than a bitter, negative jackass. You seriously need to get a life! Just go! Get lost! Walk out your home one day and never return....
I won't even read all of this, but simply will say that Dr. Minnis is a jackass of the highest degree. This man is clueless, and disagrees to everything just for the sake of disagreeing. Real JackAss!
I totally agree with Mr. Munroe, and I can't stress it enough. If the so called number houses are forced to close, I am quite confident that we will see the crime levels increase, and lets be realistic, our police force are not capable in policing this country, and it has nothing to do with their unwillingness, but they simply do not have the "Numbers". This country is not getting any better, and will continue to get worst each day, and you can bet that very soon our Tourism product will be hit at its foundation. The only thing the Government is going to achieve in shutting down the web shops is more poverty among our people . I find it so amazing to see how many of you speak negatively toward the numbers guys, and its only out of Envy. Many of you are sick with that black crab syndrome, and are so consumed with this envy that cannot focus on what is really happening, and will happen in this country. You sit by idly and watch the Government to screw us over, but continue sitting on the side lines, and focusing on bringing down your own people, while on a daily basis this Government, and the previous administration shows us that they are not for Bahamians; and i don't blame them. Most of y'all are a bunch of sheepish jack assess, and they know it.
@ proudloudandfnm, I totally agree with Mr. Munroe. This is a bunch of Bull Shyt. Tourism my ass! I've said it before and I'll say it again, "I pray to GOD that we don't end up revolting like the Haitians, and Jamaicans do". Its really only so much i think that Bahamians will take, and specifically those that suffer because of the bad choices Government make. Here it is in the 21st Century, we have thousands of illegal immigrant here, and the Government is concerned about grown men, and women Bahamians gambling? Are you kidding me? When was the last time any of you heard about a raid taking place? The sad truth is that both FNM and PLP Governments have neglected to deal with it and now the Police and Defense force are afraid to do anything about it, and not to mention our useless Immigration department. Our police force and Defense for is without a doubt, out numbered by such violent groups as the Haitians and Jamaican,s and so they are afraid to deal with it. This country is doomed, and that is no joke, and it wont get any better until Bahamians demand to be treated better and stand up for our rights. This is some serious shyt.
Again i say, this is a very serious matter. JOBs are not out there in abundance as some would have you believe, and with an already high unemployment rate, and a few thousand kids coming out of school this June, we will be in an even poorer state. I pray to GOD that all this pushing by the "Have's" does not lead to the "Have nots" revolting. I dread the day that we become a people like those we see violently protesting in Haiti and Jamaica. We are a country of almost 400 thousand and a police force of perhaps just over 3,500. I fear that we will end up like those countries if we are not careful. Times are extremely hard for many, and the opportunities are just not out there. We need to leave the politics out of this because real people are being hurt.
