This whole thing should have been dealt with by the Government and made legal from the start. Lets be realistic here, this issue goes beyond the employees of the web-shops, and the owners. There are countless thousands of Bahamians that play numbers, many of which that voted "NO" to regulating the industry simply because they felt that the payouts would decrease, and that the Government would tax their winnings. Going beyond that, one of the top 10 reasons for Crime, and this is perhaps world wide, is "poverty". Many Bahamians play numbers not with the intent of someday hitting it big and becoming millionaires, but simply to make ends meet. I respect our Commissioner of Police, and appreciate the tight position that he now finds himself in. I would certainly not want his job. Should he follow through on his promise to shut down the web shops, we will most certainly see a larger spike in CRIME, one in my opinion that we have never seen before, and this saddens me because we really cannot afford anymore negative publicity, as it relates to crime. I really don't think that the powers that be have given this particular outcome much thought, and this is scary. We really need to break the trend of putting wealthy men/women in Government because lets face it, they can no longer relate to the trials, especially financial ones, that the average Bahamian has to go through on a daily basis. our Government is going to extreme lengths to stomp out the numbers industry, and here it is we have countless illegal immigrants living here, and yet we don't hear or see them conducting raids? The only thing they do is send back the illegal immigrants that are caught when trying to come here. My people, this is very serious, and i will end in saying "GOD help us". " For every action, there is an EQUAL and opposite reaction". The number houses may one day be shut down, but my beloved people, we will now be faced with an increase in crime. Finally, I think we need to stop expecting the police to stop crime. They cannot control the evil that an individual or individuals conjure up in their minds.
Minnis is a Damn Fool to the highest degree, and what makes him look more stupid is his useless contributions in the House of Assembly. This jack ass simply opposes everything that the Government does, just to oppose. He is useless, and will not make a good PM. If the FNM wants to get back in power, they better get rid of that jack ass, and replace him with perhaps Loretta Butler Turner. I really hope that my Bahamian people are paying attention to this heartless jackass.
Man words cannot express how i feel when i read some of the ridiculous things that are said by those who claim to represent GOD. It truly reminds me of the stories leading up to the crucifixion of JESUS, and the judgments that were levied against him by "MAN". What i find most amazing though, is that so many jack ass Bahamians flock to, and near worship some of the so called Religious leaders here in the Bahamas, who themselves have sought after worldly riches, and whats so funny is that my jack ass Bahamian people accept it. What ever happened to this? "Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." That said, doesn't this mean that ALL of the wealthy pastors right here at home, right here in Nassau, many of which strongly opposed gambling, won't make to heaven because of their riches alone? But of course I'm sure some of you will find a way to justify their greed for wealth. Sorry, but many of you are nothing more than Sheep.
Sorry, but this is all about politics and its unfortunate that the people employed in web shops have to be treated this way. If an individual wants to go and play his/her money on numbers, then so be it. I know that for me personally, i don't skip a beat in playing the Florida lottery when i go away, and sometimes send my money with family or friends to have my tickets purchased. What many people don't consider is that aside from the people that would be added to our already alarming unemployment rate if the "numbers" industry was to go away, is also the other individuals that are probably playing numbers to help subsidize their current income in an effort to support their families. Many also don't consider the effect this will have on the destitute or desperate individual who simply feels/or is a unfortunate casualty of life and the "crappy hand" that some of us are dealt. This is real people,so what do you think will happen when those people no longer have this avenue to possibly make the extra few dollars to buy something so basic as food to put on the table? Do you honestly think that crime will not increase further? Lets be realistic, jobs are just not in abundance, our unemployment rate is almost at 15%, and in June we will have a few thousand more added to the unemployment lines. I truly empathize with all the people that this issue touches. I can only imagine how what these people have to deal with mentally and emotionally. This never should have gotten this far and should have been made fully legal a long time ago. We are taught to be slaves to an industry that we don't own, and we welcome tourist to our shores to gamble, yet we oppress our own?
Personally i think this is great news if it goes through. Its great to see a Bahamian company branching into the US market. Now i only wish i had some money to buy some shares in Cable Bahamas!!!!
