When will they explain which tests are current and which tests reflect the backlog? When will they stop adding deaths before investigating whether they were ‘with’ or ‘of’ covid19. When will they realize they can ‘New Zealand’ us out of this mess.
over 500 people die Every year in the Bahamas due to diseases related to poor diet and and lack of exercise - proportionately a much more severe burden on The health care system - are you advocating that we ban fried chicken next?
Great summary...the big question that weighs on my mind is the risk of unbridled COVID really that great in face of the economic and social damage our country has been inflicted with? What will be the long term impact of the cancellation of medical checks ups and the capacity Of population to have other ailments diagnosed. The disease has been churning in our country for six months, Maybe longer unknown. 18 persons have died ‘of’ it. 4 ‘with’ it but of other causes. The medical authority seems desperate to raise apparent death rates by quickly adding to the count before clinically investigating deaths only to retract them later while still keeping the cumulative total the same. This was not the practice with the dengue fever outbreak of 2011. Numerous deathS were suspected but thorough examination were conducted before the death was chomped up to that disease. Meanwhile COVID deaths, hospitalized and cases are thrown on the dashboard every day seemingly without careful consideration. .
how bad is this ‘killer disease’ - Let’s put this Perspective : in 2014 In the Bahamas 2159 people died
. . 53 died of influenza and pneumonia, 56 of breast cancer, 58 of septicemia, 99 persons of HIV, 108 from diabetes, 127 people of homicide, . .
A whopping 559 died of vascular diseases directly related to diet and and lack of exercise (I m being generous by not including diabetes). If the government was actually more concerned about health (over public freedom) then they would banning fried food and mandating morning runs..( can you imagine!?). The destruction of our country, economy And individual freedom simply does not justified given the relative risks to the public....why are we allowing livelihoods to be destroyed, allowing children’s education to be put at risk, destroying small businesses and creating hunger and civil unrest?
The scale of the stupidity of this administration is shocking. They used all their good will between March and July and patted themselves on the back for doing such a good job - ignorant to fact they only looked good because they were not testing the wide spread public. We talk about a second wave - there was never a first wave but our politicians were too blind to see that. And now even with the current amount of the cases, mortality has not keep step and like other governments around the world the Minnis group is desperate to prove that they were right - throwing unexamined deaths into total just to prop up their desperate policy that has all but obliterated the nation. Our CFR is now one of the lowest in the world standing at about 1.2% - lower than New Zealand, South Korea, Germany and other covid 'success' Stories. 16 people have died 'of' covid and 3 people 'with' it, another 45 or so had to admitted to hospital over the course of the pandemic. All in all thats 0.0002% of our population that has been impacted critically from this disease against 45% of population facing unemployment or the 35-40% on food assistance and god knows how many small businesses that have capitulated...The needs of the many outweigh the needs few as adage goes. This has got to stop..
The lockdown is akin to a false idol. Minnis and crew are worshipping something that has not proven to work in any situation. It's akin to a rain dances of old - unknown to our ancestors of old the rain comes and goes it's doesn't pay attention to us jumping up and down in a circle. The virus is no different. It will dissipate when somewhere between 20%-30% of population has been infected. Meanwhile 99.8% of people that catch it will survive but will have their livelihoods destroyed and those that needed our hospitals medical diagnosis facilities to catch early cancer and cardiovascular issues will likely perish in the next 24 months...Crime will increase..Our currency will be devalued...And it will be because one lousy politician panicked.. and why? People die every year and usually in much higher numbers - https://www.bahamas.gov.bs/wps/wcm/conn…
This is just hilarious...Minnis has lost his marbles...does this include Russel island? Why not open south Eleuthera or central? Will you tell us, oh mighty leader how-or when we have suspected cases or the methods by which this suspicion will arise? Or is it simply a function of how well we behave in the face of draconian measures? Or how you feel about a particular island on a Friday afternoon...The law used to be innocent until proven guilty...the world is upside down.
Perhaps if we had a little more wealth we could afford some health or the expensive facilities and equipment needed to support the medical industry. It’s not either or. With out economic activity a country stagnates and health and social issues raise their ugly heads in other ways. Meanwhile CV-19 remains at best a deadly flu for very few but 99% of Confirmed cases a round the world are mild. CFR in the Bahamas is under 2%. Not to mention a larger unknown amount that are asymptomatic.
Closing the country off, like New Zealand has is pointless and unsustainable (So are the lockdowns) akin to holding your breadth under water. New Zealand has a scuba tank of air in its larger domestic economy and exports. The Bahamas does not. The virus is gonna virus, and will still be here when either country runs out of air. As it stands our case fatality rate has plummeted and deaths are a fraction of severity of the biggest killers in the bahamas - cancer, hiv, cardiovascular disease, homicide and traffic fatalities. The only way through this thing is through the fire - protect the vulnerable- enforce masks, goggles and hazmats suits if you want but end the foolish lockdown and let people work...otherwise this country will face a Long slow demise through currency devaluations, poverty and economic stagnation, compounded by the social issues (crime, violence, drug abuse) that tend to accompany such situations....meanwhile the virus is still gonna be here.
It’s a question of prevalence - prior to Sunday they tested only those that met a specific criteria - symptoms and contact. But even using that Crimea they were still getting positive rates of 6 or 7%. Wider testing picks on more mild and asymptomatic cases. Even with the 1000 extra test positive rate was roughly the same - around 5.8%. But we re talking about larger case loads so it sounds scary. Any body that talks about cases without mentioning the volume of testS is telling half the truth and not looking at the facts objectively.
