I very much doubt that the idea of Haiti joining Canada would ever take place. Why should Canada have to take on that responsibility because the Haitians cannot get their own country in order properly? Canada became independent from The United Kingdom in 1867 after a satisfactory development of democratic foundations. The idea of Haiti joining Canada is a fantasy.
This is is an excellent article. We need to be more informed and more appreciative of our Westminster parliamentary system. It is a system which has worked well in Commonwealth countries such as Canada,Australia and New Zealand. This system, together with the position of Governor-General and our British inherited Courts, gives strong confidence to overseas investors that our Bahamas is a safe place to invest. These are our anchors of stability. The last thing we need is a referendum to make changes and upset this finely balanced system..Let us be more proud of our inheritances as we celebrate our forthcoming 50th anniversary of Independence.
We have a long and historic connection with The Crown. It is the stable anchor in a world of uncertainty. Let us be proud of our parliamentary connections with the Monarchy. We share the Monarchy with several other Commonwealth nations including Canada, Australia and New Zealand who are all progressive and modern nations well respected in the world community. We need more history taught in our schools so we can appreciate what we have in our beautiful Bahamakand! The United Kingdom has been a true friend of our country and long may that last!
The Award programme has been a spectacular success in all the Commonwealth countries. It has trained large numbers of young people in an innovative and progressive programme to improve their skills. We are happy to welcome our Royal Family members to our Bahamas which is one of the oldest Commonwealth countries.
The fewer referendums we have the better. Previous ones have been a catastrophe and only caused extreme political divisions. We need to be united not divided especially in these times of economic uncertainty. and worldwide instability..
The Royal Canadian Navy forces and vessels are of an excellent standard highly regarded by many other Commonwealth countries with whom they have worked in the past. Their presence will be a very positive contribution in trying to solve problems in Haiti.
For a fair balance we shall look forward to Taiwan's viewpoint being expressed. It is obvious that ,after experiencing democracy and free elections for a long time, they are reluctant to being absorbed by the Communist Chinese Government.
An excellent article. We are proud of our links with the U.K. and our constitutional monarchy. A stable anchor for our country. Let us give our new King our support in the time ahead.
We do not want a politician's republic in our country. Another failed third world republic is not a bright future. Our Constitutional Monarchy system, as in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other realms, is a safeguard of our civil rights and liberties. It has a proven track record which helps bring in overseas investment. It is a stable anchor which we need to maintain.
