This is the govt forcing a private company to operate at a loss. They have every right to close their door if it isn't profitable to run the company. That is how free enterprise works.
This is what socialism looks like. Prices too high? Make high prices illegal! What could possibly go wrong?
Don't worry though, the govt will step in and provide pharmacy and grocery services. They'll do a great job, their track record is impeccable. Just look at what a great job BEC does providing electricity, and how reliable BaTelCo is, and how on-time Bahamasair is, and how great the RBPF is on preventing crime, and how there is zero illegal immigration on the RBDF's watch.
Why did the govt foot the bill to begin with? If a manager at a private company paid for their kid's birthday party with company funds, and then offered to repay when everyone found out, they'd still be fired, and rightfully so. Why are these guys being allowed to get away with it? What they did was theft, pure and simple. Lock them up.
“five to ten years’ experience in the operation of an advertising programme that includes generating high volume display advertising sales and revenue at airports”
So there is a requirement in the RFP that basically excludes any Bahamian business, unless they are partnered with a foreign firm. How is this controversial? Would it be better if they hired someone with no experience?
It seems like this country is in a race to try and be as socialist and xenophobic as possible, and history demonstrates that that *always* ends well.
Why have I never read one single article where the govt reduces their own operating costs? They are without a doubt the least streamlined and most bloated enterprise in the country, yet they are always asking the guy just scraping by with razor thin margins to reduce his operating costs. Meanwhile he's paying a 50% tax rate, while only enjoying a 20% profit margin.
This is how things work when a competent private company is allowed to make their own decisions, instead of layers of govt bureaucracy, corruption, unions, and nepotism turning everything to shit.
As if we needed any more clear demonstration of the fact that anything the govt touches turns to shit. Give a 100% private company permission to do something, and they do it as efficiently as possible, and deliver a quality product. Leave it up to the govt, and it is full of nepotism, corruption, and waste.
