The Bahamas should have done what every other country in the western hemisphere did. They should have signed on to the WTO at it's inception in 1994. This would forced the many structural changes to be made earlier that are needed to be made to this economy. This country is way behind in some areas of development.

Halkitis can't be minister of finance because he is not a member of the house of assembly. The minister of finance has to be member of the lower house. That was stated in the constitution. That was why the late Sir William Allen was initially the minister of state for finance. He was a senator. He only became the full minister of finance when he won the Montagu seat in an election.

The PLP government should disclose the amount of these settlements and their reasoning for these settlements. They should explain why these persons were jumped in front of the queue in getting their money. There are others who have sued the government and won. This needs to be done in the name of transparency, good governance and accountability.

A s for the FNM, they can't talk on this matter. They made a substantial payment to Algernon Cargill, the former director of NIB. This was in settlement of a suit filed against a previous PLP government. That was done under a confidential non-disclosure agreement.

My God, the Bahamas is a backward country is so many ways. You mean to say that this is the first library for female inmates ever .This should not surprise me. Women are not equal to men in the Bahamas in certain regards of the law.

The political drama that occurred in the UK won't happen any time soon here in the Bahamas. The sight of a back bencher in the house of commons asking the prime minister to resign. We really don't follow the conventions of the westminister government here in the Bahamas. Politicians here in the Bahamas are primarily about special interests, their personal interest and their egos.

This tax reduction don't surprise me at all. The Bahamas has been marketed from the days of Sir Harold Christie and Sir Stafford Sands as a tax haven for wealthy persons.

The national track and field championship was poorly promoted by the BAAA. Many persons were unaware of the event over the weekend. That was the main reason it was so poorly attended. I only became aware of it when a Guardian radio host spoke about it this morning.

@ Sickened. You really don't understand governance. Many of these bills were not drafted by Ryan Pinder. These laws were drafted by the civil servants in the attorney general's office. All he is doing is mouthing the words of other persons.

Some of these draft bills were done under the FNM party. In fact both of these political parties want to modernize the citizen laws of this country. They also need to modernize and revamp this constitution, the British gave them. This country has not reached the twentieth century with some aspects of our laws.

The writer is simply dismissive of a good idea. The island is New Providence and not Nassau. Bahamians don't have a clue how the Westminister system of government and the roles of MP's and parliament.

There is local government in Ottawa, Washington D.C, Canberra and London. Yet the head of government in those countries reside there. The writer is typical of many bahamians, self -righteous and ignorant of many things. Sensible, progressive ideas take years to reach this country.

On Nassau does not need local govt
