Both parties are arrogant in governance these last two terms. Their rabid supporters and apologists will deny it of course.

That outburst was totally uncalled for the speaker. The use of parliament and the speaker's chair to attack a civil servant.

In more advanced society, a senior politician is usually elected speaker. In the Bahamas we do things backwards.

@ Sheeprunner. if whatever government is in power, don't attempt to collect taxes when they will have to borrow. Eventually they will not be able to borrow and the IMF will take over,

I use to think all the foolish people in this country are PLPs. Your comments prove there are foolish people who support the FNM also.

This is nothing new. Misuse of and conversion of government's assets for personal gain is common.

All Bahamians is do is talk.

This is nothing new. There have been splits in the trade union movement before. The NCTU broke away from the TUC in the eighties.

Quite a number of these union leaders have political aspirations. Unions are a means to an end for some of them.

The Bahamas leads per say in tourism arrivals in this region. However if you look at the numbers closely, the vast majority of that is cruise passengers.

Since 1990,the main driver of tourism arrivals to the Bahamas is through cruise tourism. Several countries have surpass the Bahamas in the number of stop-over tourism arrivals. The Canadian tourism market was lost to Cuba some time ago .Over a million Canadians use to vacation yearly in Cuba before the advent of the Cov-19 pandemic.

The Bahamas is seen by some travelers as a very expensive destination with little to do. That was the opinion of some Panamanians who came to the Bahamas. They said that in a survey of the Ministry of Tourism.

There is going to be continued challenges to the development of tourism in the Bahamas. It has become increasing competitive. The Bahamas main advantage is it is the proximity to the United States and the continued economic embargo of Cuba.

This is how the Bahamas operates. Vested interest groups keep the country backward for their personal financial interests.

A top land surveyor said that it was recommended from 1963 for a land registry to be established in the Bahamas. Here we are. almost sixty years later it has not been done. In a smaller, poorer Caribbean island, their land registry was set up in the mid -seventies.

@ Tribanon. You forgot personal responsibility and parental involvement in educational success.

I met recently a top professional in this country who came through the public school system in New Providence. He never spent a day in private school. His mother was very involved in his education and he understood what a good education could do for him. Also some of the top performers in some public schools on New Providence are the children of Haitian migrants.

This is how life goes in the Bahamas. The politicians don't follow the laws they pass, They expect every body else to follow the rules and laws. They are not censured or are not held to account. This continuing rot in this country starts with them

The Finlayson 's family has destroyed a lot of business in this country. However you have omitted the roles the late Franklyn Butler and Craig Symonette played in the demise of City Markets That company was mortally wounded when the Finllaysons purchased it .they just finished it off quickly.
