Myles LaRoda should resign since he has been nominated. The public disclosure commission should be chaired by a non-politician.

Obviously you don't know how the bahamian tax system is structured. The two main sources of government revenues ,custom duties and vat are indirect taxes. Those taxes are passed on to the consumer, which include those persons who's children attend the public school.

A bahamian who lives aboard said this system of indirect taxes simply killing the poorer classes in the Bahamas. Bahamians don't understand much, they simply just talk.

Vaugh Miller is just a poor MP. He was simply elected on the wave in 2017.

He attempted to secure a nomination from the PLP previously. This according to a long-term observer of parliament said this is the worst batch of MPs, he has ever seen. Even worse than the class under Christie in 2002.

Education is not valued in this country. This is tourism based economy where you can make a very good living without being literate, numerate or without having basic technical skills. That was before COV-19.

An economy according to according to a person with a PHD which has benefited from two of it's neighbors being economic basket cases.

BONEFISH says...

That attitude did not start with the PLP. They simply may have perfected it. Bahamian history is not taught in the Bahamas.

Let some one who knows, explain to you what is the five pound vote note was. Or how a low flying plane dropped some pound notes. I know you are older than me.

Renardo Curry did not step down. He was defeated by Minister Darren Henfield in the 2017 general election.

James Albury is simply a poor MP. His performance both in and out of parliament has been dismal. H e basically disappeared to many of his constituents after hurricane Dorian.

BONEFISH says...

As expected. He could not hope to secure a nomination with those allegations hanging over his head. The FNM has a somewhat higher standard than the PLP.

He was a poor minister of finance. The campaign general of a current sitting senior FNM cabinet minister said that. In Canada, Australia or the UK, the media would already done a series of investigative expose on him.

BONEFISH says...

I supported Jeff Lloyd in the last general election. I believe that he had the ideas and vision to move education in this country. However his performance as minister has been dismal and poor.

In fact, an FNM supporter said that in her opinion, the previous minister was better than him. The person said working under both men, Jerome Fitzgerald was simply better than him in his performance as the minister of education.

The revenue enhancement unit was set up to go after individuals and companies for outstanding taxes. They collected ninety million dollars in a six month period after hurricane Matthew according to Moody's the rating agency. In fact, Moody's questioned why was that unit disbanded by the FNM government.

The editor is either unaware or bias in it's support of this government. The financial secretary Wilson and his technical team gave presentations to Peter Tunquest about the programs they were running to collect outstanding revenues and modernize the tax administration. Those programs were cancelled and the contractual staff sent home in 2017. What the auditor general 's report is revealing is the cascading effect of those poor decisions.

Somebody outside the Bahamas spoke to me yesterday and just expressed shock. How could a government raise the vat tax, a regressive tax and make no real attempt to collect all this outstanding taxes. The person said to me Bahamians simply don't understand much. The person said to me ,all of those programs are going to be restarted .The person also said that the international lending agencies including the IMF will insist that it to be done.

BONEFISH says...

Marlon Johnson is simply incompetent. One of his actions was to to disband the revenue enhancement unit.

He sent home all the contractual workers from that unit. He gave some vague answers
when he was questioned about it by a Nassau Guardian reporter. He and Peter Turnquest stopped all the projects started by financial secretary Wilson. All of those projects need to be restarted.
