We need a major education program about recycling in the Bahamas.I attempt to recycle aluminum cans. Maybe we can get it started in the schools, churches and government offices
One of the Rt Hon.Hubert Ingraham's education policies was to build or attach pre-schools to existing public schools. This was started when Dame Dumont was education minister. A very good idea.
A next problem we have and don't want to discuss. My cousin's wife taught at a public school in the inner city a few years ago. She said there were a quite a number of first graders who spoke creole and spoke very little english.
Dr.Minnis has made a series of poor decisions. Someone in the know said he should have kept Mr.Wilson as Financial Secretary. He was a technocrat and knew what he is was doing. DPM Turnquest wanted to disband the revenue enhancement unit set up under Mr.Wilson.Then he realized they collected an additional 100 to 120 million dollars a year from tax cheats. The Acting Financial Secretary could not explain the government's economic policies in a meeting with persons from an international agency.Like someone said, in that meeting he was not speaking any sense.
Dr,Minnis needs to regroup. He has to select people for their abilities and not only because they are loyal to him.
The taxation system will have to change when we joined the WTO.Custom duties will have to reduced and replaced by other taxes. The Bahamas is a country far behind the eight ball. The country in this hemisphere not a part of the WTO.Even tiny ST.Kitts and Nevis is a member.
The slippage in the support of Dr.Minnis is not among FNM supporters. The PLP has not gained any traction or support. The slippage is among the swing voters. Many of whom are dissapointed.
Acting FS Johnson spends quite a bit of time on facebook defending the government policies. But that is not his job or responsibility. However that is his true calling. He really should be Press Secretary. Like some one told me,the treasurer Cartwright was promoted to DFS to save Marlon. He at the moment, can't do a job he was groomed for.LOL
I like Desmond Bannister as both as a minister and person. He know exactly why he defended Davis. I feel sorry for professionals like Glen Laville and the former FS Wilson. They live in a country of sharks.MP Gibson don't have the technical skills, knowledge and maturity to be executive chairman of the WSC.
