This is well said ... but hard to imagine coming 9 months late from the person who actually bore responsibility, albeit he appears to be differentiating the medical role from that of the Police investigating the missing and dead, which could well be where the answers lie.

At least Cooper appreciates the significance ... and consequences of dancing with the IMF ... the Financial Grim Reaper of the World ... the time of reckoning is nigh ... and Lord help us for we have sinned!

Baha10 says...

No one likes Doom and Gloom, but reality is such now that the Financial Grim Reeper has spoken and it is now too late to turn back the hands of time and make amends for failing to properly manage this Country post Independence ... if only someone had listened and had the courage to make the tough decisions that successful Businessmen are required to make virtually every day, we could have held our heads high and marched on Bahamaland ... alas our Independence has come to an end in less than 50 years ... so, so sad .. and worse most Bahamians do not even appreciate what has happened, but regrettably they soon enough will.

I foresee only 1 person winning in this “throw of the dice” and it ain’t the Web Shops or the Government, much less the people of The Bahamas, whether they be gamers or non-gamers.

I like this KISS approach:

1. Repeal Appeasement Financial Legislation of past 20 years.
2. Grant Passports (excluding right to vote) to Investors of $1mil.+.
3. Eliminate Govt. Approvals for Real Estate Investments (like Cayman).
4. Eliminate VAT.
5. Close Web Shops.
6. Close BahamasAir.
7. Privatize Water & Sewerage.
8. Privatize BPL.
9. Sell remaining interest in BTC.
10. Reduce Civil Service by 50%.

Pretty simple, and if we could do this like any “normal” business by 1st June, we “might” be able to retain our sovereignty and avoid the IMF taking over our Economy.

As the World gets ready to shred WHO apart for its inadequate response to the Virus, why would we put ourselves in such a position that will pit us against our closest neighbor and largest benefactor on all fronts?!?

Ms. Astrid was a Lady of much dignity and standing in Marsh Harbour and neither her Memory nor her surviving Family deserve what has transpired over the past 8 months since the passage of Hurricane Dorian ... both tragic and extremely sad.

This is an extremely well written straight to the points opinion piece and as much as I am personally a proponent of people being free to live and spend their money however they so choose, even if inherently harmful to them, there is no question that historic alcohol abuse has significantly hindered the development of this Country, which been further exasperated by legalizing local gaming, as clearly now evidenced by the extreme decay in already poor, but nonetheless quaint communities in both New Providence and the Family Islands, just visit Eleuthera, Harbour Island, Exuma, Long Island, Cat Island, Andros, Sandy Point ... “any” of them, as there are no exceptions where the impact has been positive!
