Please this man eats his own young....he had disenfranchised and intentionally ruined many FNM's; anyone who could not be used for his own personal gain. He has proven untrustworthy and just unprofessional. The professional community has lost respect for this administration.
I do not think the FNM have a chance with Minnis as leader and/or some of the present Ministers in place. I hope the machinery of the FNM step up and make the hard call!
Very good points regarding the coronavirus and its impact on tourism especially if the WHO declares it a pandemic! The effects on the economy with tourism and the potential demand on the already struggling medical system...
Ummm…..BPL.....millions and millions...and in worst state than when they started...and we have not yet seen the true costs to the GDP recognized. I have not heard that they secured support for this bond either.
If they have to borrow from the Central Bank...and in turn have the Central Bank reorganize their T Bills to a longer time limit to allow additional borrowing..that is very unnerving. Especially given the liquidity of the local banks. I hear local companies are not being paid as they should, and many are owed their VAT refunds.
It seems the government is forgoing their local obligations in order to facilitate their international obligations. That can only go on so long before the country defaults..
Interestingly enough...this suggestion sounds very similar to the idea one of the former Engineers at BPL was recommending and working on developing with Shell NA. He advised the drilling of the wells was always problematic. That having funds available gave the availability to organize a proper cleanup, site planning and alternative cooling system for the new plant. The one that would have been at no cost up front to the Bahamian taxpayer.
However, that soon went by the wayside when the MOU with Shell NA was pushed aside and the same Engineer I heard refused to sign revised documents that were not in the best interest of the Bahamian tax payer...had to retire.....and now here we are...broke!!!
To even further complicate issues from what I read in the papers... part of the recent law suit filed by the previous Director's is that the present board is **not ratified because Bannister did not adhere to the Act in dismissing the former Directors.**
If this is proven correct this means this present Board did not have the authority to change the MOU with Shell.....and ultimately add the 2 billion to the GDP. If decisions are determined to be not in the best interest of the Bahamian taxpayers..I don't believe there will be any loopholes...the present Directors will be personally liable.
This action has to effect this so called bond on the open market..what a bunch of foolishness!!
BPL was aware of the difficulties all along with drilling wells. This is not a new problem, every time a drill bit is broken they have to drill somewhere else. There was a plan in place with the funding from Shell for full cleanup, proper site planning prior to the building of the plant which included a completely different option for cooling the engines.
However, corruption is a serious thing. The qualified engineers who were working with Shell originally I hear were either were forced to retire and/or quit and re-located to the US.
The amount of money that has been irresponsibly spent of tax payer money is stunning....
