What I don’t understand is why there are two Boards? Regardless of the reappointment each year they would be invited to resign with the change of government. This story seems to indicate the former Board members are refusing to resign. Seems to indicates they are desperate to hide something or feel entitled to demand a payout by the Bahamian taxpayers. Given that persons are struggling to find food and pay rent, makes this foolish that much more disgraceful. Is the former Board even ratified? I hope Minister Sears calls a full inquiry.

Not feeling Pintard after he was videotaped with the two thugs. That is very unbecoming of anyone let alone a wannabe government party leader. Also, after he treated those women so dismissively who are married to expats and spearheaded legislation that is against the constitution, he just does not have the depth of character/scope or the intelligence. Pintard like to talk plenty, but pretty shady behind the scenes which to me is always an indication of lack of intelligence and self assurance. Think he forgets more women vote in this country than men. While I agree with the slim pickings comment, Iram seems to be the only viable option. FNM has a long way to go to get back to its glory days. Pintard, Lewis and Thompson all contributed to the failing of this party, all sat quiet in support of Minnis. They need a 180 degree turnaround with someone completely different.

I do not believe for a second comments about this CEO dealing with rogue processes are true. I have a feeling this man is part and parcel of the problem at BPL and what has happened over the past four years. Remember he "resigned" from GP Power.

I would like to know who are the beneficial owners/shareholders of the said companies awarded these bids. Why do I have a feeling we may find at the end of the dig for beneficial owners sitting Board members.

How can a consulting firm determine if due diligence regarding the RFP process took place without speaking to any of the technical team involved, reviewing all of the bids involved, or speaking to the former Directors. This consulting team seems to only have spoken with the same people, who they also determined were not following proper processes. Shell NA is quite reputable and more than able to handle the unique needs of this country. They do not need management to source engines on their behalf. Especially persons whose skill set include chemical engineering, so I hear, and another who has the equivalent of engineering diploma or a local lawyer.

I say again stop with the smoke and mirrors and look closely why they diverted from the original approved RFP, which was approved by Cabinet..why they spent loaned money again bank covenants. Stop accepting foolishness from this report and begin to see what exactly has happened. There is no way a proper forensic review would choose not to interview key persons involved. I also go back to the question I read in the Guardian today which was, is the present Board even ratified? If they are not why did they make these type of massive investments and on whose authority?

On BPL’s Shell deal process ‘oblique’

My question is why was Bannister, in his capacity as Minister, sending his friend Rollins and this CEO Heastie to meet with Shell, when they were not the technical persons involved and why is Bannister sending his friend Rollins and Heastie to participate in a conference on behalf of the Min of Works in China...without consulting the Chair and then expecting BPL to pick up the tab. If Osborne has not spoken up she would not be executing her fiduciary responsibility. I am more concerned about happened in Finland to derail the Shell process so badly on something so important to the country, and what then said deals were in turn made in China. Was there reporting as I heard no feedback on this from Bannister, but maybe I missed this. Wasn't this also the time they all visited Macoa....what a time...this is just more smoke and mirrors to take the spotlight off what really has gone down with the purchase of those engines and at the company in general. I find it suspicious that a consulting firm hired to investigate the dismissal of the Directors did not feel it warranted to speak with the former Directors. To me that has red flags all over it...what then was the real scope.

I also feel if you betray your country through the intentional mismanagement of a Government owned entity, to the extent it jeopardizes the well being of a country and its citizens to function...then to me that is also a form of treason. Millions spent, and this country still is experiencing power insecurity which not only effects its citizens but the ability to attract investment. What company do you know locally that carries a debt load like BPL and maybe has 120,000 paying customers....

All this confirms is that Bannister and his allies (Heastie, Rollins, Bethel) used this to create a distraction while wasting tax money. The real question is why did these four feel the need to create such a distraction. Why were key staff retired when they did not endorse purchase decisions. Also note this report highlighted concern for the procurement process post the three Directors departure and key employees departures. I firmly believe the finders fees for the new engines are safely in some offshore accounts. It would be interesting to see also what present Board members have been awarded contracts for services related to BPL. I hope the present Minister continues to dig. However, my fear is he will find treason, sadly.

Will the BOC be asked to offer their resignations? This is a national embarrassment.

Bahamianbychoice says...

Yes Emera has been successful and didn’t they let go BPL‘S present CEO? So I agree with you it appears Managment may be the problem. But since Wartsila persons are being paid to keep the engines on I still want to know why they cannot.
