Agreed, $150 a week is low, the question is why is a particular persons labour valued at $150 a week? Minimum wage is for kids & unskilled individuals.
If every increase in salary gets and equal increase in price we will still be in the same situation or maybe worse. I don't think any smart business person is willing to let go of competent quality employees for a few bucks an hour raise if they can maintain good profitability.
You are paid according to your value, increase your value increase your marketability you will increase your pay. The underlying problem goes beyond minimum wage, cost is the elephant in the room. It cost a fortune to live in the Bahamas, ordinary goods, services, and basic living expenses have inflated astronomically in comparison to wages across the board. Many are living a fraud just to hold onto some social status but getting further and further behind on bills each month. Broke down houses in the ghetto that were worth 5 maybe 10 thousand in the 90's are now going for 50,000. A loaf of bread $6.00, peanut butter $6.00-$8.00, basic things cost to damn much. The question we should be asking is what the hell happened to an affordable Bahamas? The government has set up its own people to fail..
I'm no medical professionals but it sames that this Life could have probably been saved by ibuprofen or aspirin or any anti-inflammatory, blood thinning medication in small doses. This would have temporarily prevented cloths until the bodies natural healing process took place. We have so many people that pass away unnecessarily because of our mentality towards diet and simple common sense preventative measures. My heart goes out to the family during this difficult time.
These are objective standards Mrs. Gibson, either they filed or they didn't and if they did not the punishment is clear. For those with multiple years of defiantely neglecting the law, termination and possible incarceration for 2 years. At minimum resignation. Mrs. Gibson u are the top law enforcement official in the country, enforce the law its your job. This is why i feel the position of the AG should be an elected rather than appointed position.
Agree with many statements above, I read these articles sometimes and think there must be poison in the water or something messing up the brain of some individuals to believe that in the year 2014 we are having debate about whether individuals holding or applying for public office are even remotely qualified to be in, considered, or appointed after demonstrating poor character like deliberately not paying taxes , not disclosing income, not paying electric bill as CEO of a government owned electric company, wooooow. Then we wonder why we are being overan by illegals and criminals. 0 standards across the bord PLP/FNM, 0 standards, piss poor accountability, piss poor integrity, no obedience to the rule of law, no dignity to resign when found cheating. Leaders walking around with their heads up after being caught red handed cheating the f---k--g system. Then they threaten or take action against the people who expose them making the true heros of this country victims. These people swore an oath to uphold the laws and values of the Country, to serve the people. If any of these people who were busted cheating respected their country, God, moral values, or had decency, they would resign or retire. Objective standards of character are being debated here i don't see any gray area. How the hell are you going to get people to pay their taxes or light bill when they see the new Governnor did not pay her taxes for 14 years and the CEO of BEC don't pay his light bill. It took whistleblowers to get these people to pay Woow. These are not partisan issues any more than members of any party not filling financial disclosures. If u don't file u should be punished period. Those who cannot see the moral discrepancies good luck with crime.
Tal, this is not about her receiving her Husbands pension, she deserves that. This is about neglecting to pay your taxes.. Any politician of any party is ineligible for office if they neglect to pay their taxes period. If she remaind a private citizen I would be the first to defend her, but she has volunteered to be placed in the Governors Office and the Governor should represent high moral standards. At 81 she probably forgot to pay them, but in that case why even bother with the nonsense of public life at 81. She put herself out there so she should have to answer questions or accept criticism. In my opinion Mrs. Pindling is to old to even be bothered with this B.S, time to join my mom and others relaxing in their old age.
This debate has gotten too personal. The problem is not personal. If u have a boat or Island there is only so many people that can fit before the thing goes to shit, the end. You cannot keep packing people on it, especially those sneaking on illegally. If the population of this country keeps growing it will become like Haiti. My point No more illegals of any nationality period. Deport everyone of the rock who is here illegal period. Shit deport some of my Bahamian relatives, the worthless ones along with the illegals. Take some of our criminals too and politicians, the rock is over crowded people, lets create some space.
