Positiveinput: its illegal the security guard should not have it.. But the problem is not the gun its a gun in the hands of an idiot.. The criminals have illegal hand guns and automatic weapons.. They are also not just robbing but killing, rapping or causing serious physical damage.. If u put a gun in the hands of a Law abiding citizen of sound mind, its going to be locked away in the safe like they are at my house...Guns don't kill people idiots, psycho's and untrained people kill people... Arming yourself is about giving each law abiding citizen a chance at survival because obviously the police cannot even protect themselves let alone citizens... When someone takes shot at a Supt. and now a Sgt. a message is being sent.. Guns are not the solution to the crime problem, but it will give law abiding citizen a fare chance of survival versus a gun carrying Thug... Protect your family and community until we can figure this outs..

I am a Cop, ThisisOurs this is how it works.. Lets look at Police response to incidents.. If u call the Police your call goes to the Dispatch Center, they have to process whats going on and hopefully a unit is in the area, if not lets just say it takes a minimum of 5 to 10 minutes to get much needed critical assistance...Lets say response time for RBPF is double what I quoted u r dead in either situation...The problem is these guys are not just taking the merchandise and leaving, they are killing and raping... People who own firearms should be honest hard working Bahamians of sound mind, who also undergo back ground investigation and training...I now live in he U.S and I can tell u I have a shot gun and a Pistol and so do many of my neighbors. We are responsible people, but we also understand that each of us need to protect ourselves and Our family... I have lived in this neighborhood for a while and have never heard one of my neighbors shot anyone or produce a firearm, but I know if they need too its there... The criminals have Guns and U have none is that fare... Try a baseball bat vs hand gun and see how that works..

The Royal Bahamas Police force can set up more Stings for these guys using a Anti Crime plain Cloths Units. We know they go for phones, electronics, Money, cars (Honda), Jewelry, etc... Its a lot of risk but it would be worth it to cause confusion in the criminals mind. Have take down units do surveillance on a Mark and when they make the move converge on them and take them down.. Why be reactive with these criminals, go after them and be more proactive...Set up a sting house and ride around at night, they will follow u home, when they make there move have about 30 officers waiting for them... This way the court will be taken out of the equation because most of these arm robbers will die in shoot outs with the Police..

TalRussell: It is obvious this Officer was up to no good...When u are assigned a security detail like the DPM Body Guard its called a P job.. That means he has no assigned shift other than when the DPM needs him so he has free reign now that DPM is out of Country. He was either double dipping or doing something personal over there.. We can make the argument that without drawing that gun it could be worse, these young guys don't care, they'll kill anyone...

Either they Handcuffed him in the front which should be against policy or this is one incredibly flexible Individual.. Either way the Officers need about a 30 day suspension, thankfully no one got hurt...

Totally agreed: The Law needs to be changed...In many of my prior post I have discussed a need for this.. We can play sociologist all we want but denying honest, mentally sound Bahamians access to certain Firearms puts them at a tremendous disadvantage for protecting there families.

Concernedcitizen: That is one of the side effects of poverty and the lack of education...That is also a condition of the welfare state and moral decay where people are not held accountable for this type of behavior... It is the absents of Shame.. Pop culture and Music encourage young girls that they want a Ruff Neck or Thug.. Unfortunately Thugs don't make good anything, let alone take care of kids or pay bills.. We can agree that Single Motherhood is a problem, these kids need good responsible men to guide them. For many young girls Pop Culture is deciding what a good man is suppose to be, its even worse in single parent homes with no male role model as the example... The only way to deal with this is education or arrest people for irresponsible breeding and give them a choice sterilization or jail. Charge them with endangering children and the public, and abuse of the Tax payer, punishment vasectomies for men, tubes tied for women.. Unfortunately in a civilized society we cannot do this... The reality is many young girls go for losers (thugs) early and 5 kids later realize its too late... Responsible boys or men that are doing positive things just don't have that pop culture swagger they desire... Later in life they find out no respectable Man wants Single Mothers with multiple Kids. Only losers are happy to take them and more breeding and irresponsibility continues, its a vicious cycle and society is paying the price...

Llovebahamas: there is a study to agree or dispute everything & even our own crime statistics are heavily manipulated so lets talk about people..The crime problem is bad because over a time period there was a systematic neglect for the poor, everything else are the side effects. While this needs to be addressed tell me how to stop a man breaking into your house about to rape, robb and kill.. Criminals don't listen to nothing but the gun & there are too many criminals running around Nassau with no respect for the law.. in an idealist world based on theory I would agree with u, but after 12 years of police experience I say proctect yourself...

To my fellow Bahamians if I were u, I would start getting to know your neighbors and establishing neighborhood watches. Involve the police as a secondary measure because citizens on the front line watching each others backs are more effective than the Police. For Weapons each Law Abiding Citizen should own a 12 Gauge Shot Gun and pistol of no less than 40 Caliber.. I personally like Springfield Armor but choose what is best for you. Go to the range and learn to operate, clear, clean and manage these weapons from qualified person. The shot gun is great for the ladies too, because if a intruder comes in your home that buck shot will get them if aim is off just a little which is why I think shot guns are the perfect combat weapons, plus there is just something intimidating about the sound of racking that slide.. If you are sitting around waiting for the Government to Protect U, U R essentially a sitting duck waiting to Die....
