Everyone here on the island thought that no one could be worse for Bimini's environment than RAV Bahamas, but it seems like Genting is trying to prove us all wrong.

The arrogance of this company is astounding, and disgusting.

Supporting the mission of Operation Potcake goes beyond the concerns of "animal lovers." This is a quality of life issue for all residents of the Bahamas.

Having such a serious problem with strays makes the Bahamas look bad as a country, turning away tourists and investors. These stray, uncared for animals also often become nuisances or dangers to residents and visitors.

This problem also contributes to many Bahamians viewing dogs and cats as "pests" that should just be killed or exterminated. This perception that some locals have also makes the Bahamas look "backwards" to many people who would are looking to invest here.

The VMAB's decision has only made these problems worse. Worse for the animals, worse for the people that live here, and worse for their reputations as care-providers for these animals.

It's a shame.

It should be noted that Bimini's local District Council called and held this meeting, not the Resorts World developers.

This is welcome news, but I'm sure somehow Resorts World Bimini will do some extraordinarily unnecessary damage to the environment in the process.

That seems to be their business model.

Resorts World Bimini is bragging about having about 25% occupancy on their boat.

40,000 in three months makes an average of less than 450 per trip.

So why are Biminites being forced to have this horrible pier shoved down their throats when the demand for the ferry obviously isn't there?

This article says it correctly when they say this type of development makes The Bahamas look "desperate." And appearing desperate is only going to attract more undesirable investors.

The Bahamas is one of the most beautiful countries on the planet, and the Government needs to understand that they can expect more out of these extremely wealthy foreign investors when it comes to environmental stewardship and respectful business practices.

You won't turn away investors by being picky, you'll only turn away the careless investors that shouldn't be allowed here anyway.
