This is the best article I've seen in a while. It's refreshing to hear Government officials speak honestly and openly about shady business tactics being attempted.

If only the Bahamas Government would stand up to these crooks too!

If genting didn't give them money, them I'm sure RAV Bahamas did (the original developer). The two companies are partners now, and both equally disrespectful and destructive.

Talk to ANYONE here on the island, it's common knowledge that RAV Bahamas has been bribing Government officials for years.

BiminiHomeowner says...

How convenient that a multi-billion dollar company can simply demand hundreds-of-thousands of dollars from poor people as a way to get away with whatever they want.

The government of the Bahamas should be ashamed of themselves.

Guess how many meetings the Government and these Developers had with Biminites and local stakeholders about the pier before they had begun construction?

Zero.

BiminiHomeowner says...

So the billion dollar resort is demanding that the people of Bimini cover their court costs, so that they can hopefully continue to destroy the island's environment?

Resorts World Bimini is a disgrace.

Anyone saying that in 2013/2014 that the Bahamas has to sacrifice their reefs (a HUGE draw for tourists, and a critical component of the countries entire economy) for jobs is the one that is truly backwards.

The destructive plans put forth by Genting in Bimini were completely unnecessary, and many better plans were proposed that would have kept the resort open while avoiding damage to the reefs.

The Bible says that homosexuality is "detestable", "abhorrent", and an "abomination."

Those exact words are also used in reference to eating Lobster and Conch.

$275 million is nothing to Genting, a company that is constantly boasting about their multi-billion dollar wealth.

Better that they leave now before they begin dredging through Bimini's reefs.

This is great news for the island. Bimini will recover from this, the island was heading in the right direction before Genting got involved, hopefully the Biminites can get back on track and keep improving their tourism industry.

It's hard to fully comprehend how poorly thought out this whole Resorts World Bimini project has been.

They have been dragging their massive anchor over Bimini's seabed for months. They've wanted to do significantly more damage by dredging through Bimini's reefs for their pier project. They've created an unequaled amount of negative publicity for the island. And now, just like everyone around here knew would happen, they're already talking about pulling out from the island, albeit for some "BS" excuse.

Everyone involved with this disaster should be held accountable, from the developers to the Government officials who signed off on this horrible idea.
