Yep I agree with this. But I'm getting to a point where I just think we need to start giving these people a good cut#%& in the public square. Lets not waste the courts time with petty thieves and add more burden to the prison system. We should drag them to a public square and give them a good whipping.
These incidents are so sad to hear about. People simply don't care anymore. And to think that these killers are living next to us and driving on the same streets as you and I. Its a frightening thought. Does anyone out there know how well the CCTV system is working in the detection of crime? I know it can't prevent crime, but I was just wondering if the police had positive results since its been in use.
That's exactly the thing CC. Many of the folks love to come here and just insult. No clear arguments for or against policies. As I've said before CC and you would know, from our previous discussions. I am not comfortable with all the cabinet appointments either. I think I am more critical of the PLP than most people on here and I'm a party supporter. But I have to be and I encourage FNMs to do the same with their party. My overarching position on these forums is to really get Bahamians to be more fair and sensible in their assessment of things. When the PLP screwed up the last time I was the first to say they deserved to lose. But what bothers me is that people from both these parties refuse to be honest with themselves and others. We know some dodgy things go down in both the PLP and the FNM. But the FNM loves to say its a scandal free government and party. Anyway, all I'm saying is that whichever party you support we need to be their touhest critics. We can't just sit back and defend everything the upper ranks of the party throw at us. I'm going to keep my people's feet to the fire. Will you?
You hear a few words here and there and use them to sound like you have some sense. I invite you please let me know where the hypocrisy lies in my comments? I would gladly acknowledge it. Anyone who has seen many of my posts on this site would know that I'm highly critical of both parties. I call it as I see it. Even my friend 'ConcernedCitizen' who can be highly partisan would agree that many of my comments are clear cut, no bull. But yah see of the two major parties the FNM likes to play blameless. Nothing is ever their problem its only the PLP or somebody else who is at fault. Cowards they are.
Hahahaha its quite interesting that I'm described as testy by someone who is hurling insults. I simply said that we need to be more sensible in our judgement of people. True there is a typo in the word education being plural. But for you to pick at that and try to use it as an insult is quite amusing. Perhaps I am a straw vendor, but what does it matter if I am. And if I am it says a whole lot for my success and achievement that I'm sitting in a coffee shop in central London enjoying this awesome day and laughing at your patronizing comments. If at some point you should be even marginally be fortunate enough to experience even a fraction of what I have. Please remember your ancestors were probably slaves as were mine, your grandparents were poor and barefoot as were mine and the most important thing to remember as you conjure up some stupid response is this your hatred and spite for your own people will forever keep you in the piss poor state you apparently live in.
That's the only conclusion I can come to with you because you appear to be angry at the world. Now that's "Testy."
Right, so only the PLP attracts criminals? Bahamians really don't know how to analyze things. The party politics is rank in the air all the time. No objectivity what so ever. All we see on these blogs is notsogumble and Tal Russell running on about party politics. No solutions and sensible points of discussion. Be more concerned about your own households than what the minister said. Meanwhile its your son or daughter peddling weed and about the streets like small time hustlers.
Furthermore criticism of a government that has been in for less than 3 weeks is really unfounded. Our political maturity has to grow in this place. Only the empty vessels in these parties are around still battling in the streets over party politics. People with common sense don't run on and wish ill of their own government.
notsogumble I was just watching the back and forth on here and was just observing the with interest the comments made. But I have to say something about your comments on Straw Vendors. You need to catch yah self. Bahamians too love to play like they are from some aristocracy. The people you insult in the Straw Market are our neighbors, our church members, our PTA parents, our family, our friends and our fellow Bahamians. As far as I know our population doesn't vary that much that majority of our ancestors didn't come off the same ship. We really need to check ourselves in this country and get a grip. We've gotten a little education and now we think we're above our own. We applaud people who have pursued educations and done well for themselves. But I think we need to be careful how we denigrate each other. So let me challenge you then notsogumble. If there is dumbness, crookedness, dishonesty and scandal only in the low Straw Market then how do you explain the gross incompetence we see in the local commercial banks. I wouldn't talk about the theft and dishonesty. What about the many high level accountants and bankers in this country accused of embezzlement and fraud that has been swept under the rug time and time again? What about the many thieves in the hotel industry who's news stories never see the light of day? If you want talk numbers talk these numbers. The FNM loves to act as if its hands are clean and in their hearts they know its not true. I agree there has been scandal under the PLP and many PLPs know that. But please lets top dragging straw vendors and others into these arguments. We use them when its time for election then speak ill of them when things don't go our way.
Again we hear from the many tribal supporters of the two major parties. The post by 'Positiveinput' is exactly right. It has all to do with slackness in this country. I once saw a police officer at the entrance of the PM's office with his belt undone and his tunic halfway buttoned. Three things crossed my mind. 1. This fella must be hot and needed to catch some air, 2. He was just scurrying back from a rendezvous and couldn't get his gear on quick enough or 3. This officer could simply care less about the office he is meant to protect and could give two hoots about the uniform that represents RBPF. The first two are unlikely as he was inside an air-conditioned building and I doubt he did any scurrying. I really wanted to tell him off about it but I decided not to get into confrontation. But it is these little acts of slackness that create a snowball effect and the much larger cracks can be seen in the public service. In this case a mover who nobody knows comes and picks up the throne and some other things and there is no process for transfer of these items from one official to the next. Dithering idiots.
I beg to differ Concernedcitizen. Hubert Ingraham was no different. He did the same rubbish and FNMs love to act like he was so different. He did the FNM a disservice by not sensibly planning for and grooming his successors. He knew that Tommy and Dion couldn't foot the bill so he should have looked elsewhere. But watch Concernedcitizen, Perry will be no different. He will sit around and wait til the last minute and then endorse someone. Which will in the end cause tensions to rise in the party. The grooming of leaders should be such that, they are groomed and the party then decides who carries us forward. Perry's only job now as party leader should be to be a guide and a source of knowledge. He nor Hubert should ever get in this habit of endorsing one person or the other.
In fact they should have been so good at grooming these guys that it makes it hard for the delegates to choose. All that means is that we would have a stable of leaders for years to come. Again its not about these men. Its about our country and the kind of leaders we want to groom to lead our country from either side of the aisle. I think the process of grooming and preparing leaders in our country has fallen well off the mark. And its not only in politics of which I speak. The business community has done a shockingly poor job of mentoring young professionals in this country. The guys at the top think they will be there forever and when they leave or are forced to leave there is a void left. A selfish and stupid attitude that is pervasive in this country.
To be honest I'm surprised at the outrage this article sparked. Her sources were obviously dubious and the article itself was not that brilliantly written. But I'm not so upset about her silly article, because that's exactly what it is. Silly! Any tourist reading it I think would have been able to discern for themselves the nonsense from reality written. I don't think Americans are that stupid and naive.
