I used to have some respect for this member of the clergy, but recently each time he opens his mouth, or picks up a pen, my respect level has diminished. This is the dumbest rhetoric that has attached my ear drums in a very long time. Either he is kissing up to Lanisha Rolle, or trying to outdo Palacious. These guys will say almost anything, no matter how outlandish, to grab the headlines. Sad!
I do feel a little sympathy for Mr. Christie. He had two opportunities to really make a difference in our Bahamaland, but accomplished nothing of significance. I really believe that he was limited in his achievements by a funadamental deficiency, that might have not have been completely his fault. He had always found himself in the shadows of Ingraham, even though a partner in their law firm. He never got the big cases, and, unlike Junior partner, Brave, was always forced to feed at the bottom. While I don't believe he personally set out to plunder, loot and pillage from the Public's Purse, he will never be able to convince me, and many other Bahamian voters, that he was not at least complicit in turning a blind eye, or remaining silent, in the face of overwhelming signs of the shenanigans of his cabinet ministers.
It seems as though for this particular Vote, the Bahamas was caught between a Rock and a very Hard Place - damned if they do, and damned if they don't. Abstaining was probably the best move. Fred Mitchell, once again, with his "Superior Knowledge of world affairs, is simply trying to stir up trouble.
So, you are restricting a woman's dress taste to that which may not be seen as "an invitation to be groped". Pray tell me where does this body covering begin, or end, to fend off the poorly socialized male" Is a Knee-length skirt sufficient? what about a tight-fitting pants that shows all of her curves? How is she supposed to know what will/will not draw attention to her? Even if a woman is dressed in a panty and bra, this should not be taken as an invitation for sex by any man. How ignorant can you really be!
Only a sick, twisted, and depraved mind could even begin to suggest that the female victims are responsible for being assaulted by dressing inappropriately. I'm so sorry for Bahamian women. Only in the Bahamas, in this 21st. century, can a woman be raped by her husband, groped and assaulted by any man in public, and it be her fault. How disgusting!
Tal and Birdie are symptomatic of the ills that infect our beloved Bahamas, and those who stand in the way of our "Forward Upward Onward Together" march. Your backwards thinking, with nothing positive to add to the discussion, should be condemned by all progressive Bahamians who realize that it is a new dawn in our country. We are not going back to yesterday. Birdie, if all you have to every news story is that Minnis lies, then you are more shallow than I suspect, and should sit small and watch as this administration get things done. Tal, I know, you are just a comedian who cannot be taken seriously.
While I don't support illegal immigration, and will never hire an illegal immigrant to work in any of my various enterprises, I am still in support of Human Rights, and the upholding the laws of our country. Despite our anti-immigrant sentiments, we must strictly enforce our laws, as they are currently written, and not how we would have liked them to be. The Bahamas does not exist in a vacuum, but is a signatory to numerous UN conventions, and must live up to the humanitarian obligations imposed by such Conventions. Removing Director Pratt is a good first step, however, replacing him with Clarence Russell from Passport is repeating the same mistakes of the past. Mr. Russell, while formerly a decent police officer, does not have a clue on how to take Immigration Department in another direction.
I simply cannot believe that in the 21st. century, there are still Bahamians, other than Rodney Moncur, who believe that it is OK for a man to have sex with his wife against her will. It is never OK! No simply means "HELL NO!"
A very bold, well-written and glaringly truthful article. Of course there will always be those apologists who want to shoot the messenger. Unfortunately, most of our people are just "too full" of themselves to accept constructive criticisms.
