You are most likely right sheeprunner. I grew-up in a crap-hole but if you call my crap-hole a crap-hole you will definitely have a fight on your hands. Basically, the same as the son of a prostitute fighting for his mother's honor because the boy down the road call his mother a "ho".
I am of the opinion that the police force have become vigilantes due to the failings of our court system. The police arrests a person today only to see them on the streets the following day. As a society we have become desensitize to police beatings to the point there is an expectation that once in police custody you will be beaten. We have now evolved to been desensitize to police killings.
There is enough blame to go around but Jean Rony should have been more responsible. To address some of the comment made above, this is a gray area for our constitution. The remedy that has been applied over the years is to allow these individuals to apply even after their 18th birthday and eventually grant them Bahamian citizenship. Some of the comments same to indicate that he is Haitian. The Haitian constitution requires him to be native born and also for him to be Haitian the requirement is that he register at the nearest Haitian embassy. That most likely never occur thus his statelessness. If Haiti was proactive it can actually refuse to accept individuals like Rony Jean.
Bahama Pundit every country even the Bahamas went through a stage where their citizenry appeared to be having more children than they were capable of adequately caring for. This behavior seems to go hand in hand with poverty and a lack of education. The seem behavior continue to exist in quite a few of our over the hill communities. Irresponsible sexual behavior seem to be the plight of the poor. I guess some will call it the joy of the poor.
Jean Charles is without any excuse, he simply should have applied upon attaining the age of eighteen no matter how difficult or lengthy the process is. The other side of the coin is the roadblocks place by immigration to discourage those like Jean Charles from applying. I know of a case of a lady born before 1973 who is a Bahamian citizen and not until her brothers and sisters threaten legal action that she was accepted as been Bahamian and provided with a passport. Lets be real, the average Bahamian don't want to see these individuals getting Bahamian passports and it shows up with files been lost or misplaced.
Also as an employer myself, I also think it is ridiculous to punish the employer for the government failings as it relates to illegal immigrants. What next, if you rent or allow an illegal immigrant to shop at your store. A law that put the ministers responsible for Immigration and National Security in jail for doing a poor job, that I will support.
There are already laws on the book for men who assault their wives. To single out the act of sex is ridiculous. The wife's word against the husband's word. She said, he rape me. His defence, we had rough sex. How does the judge determine, who is truthful or not. The police can attest to the fact that hundreds of women on an annual basis even after an assault refuse to bring their significant other up on charges. The court system is clog, we don't need dumb laws that will further exasperate the situation.
The American UN ambassador did threaten governments that there will be repercussions for voting for the resolution that condemn the American for moving their embassy to Jerusalem. Our government abstain but apparently that was not good enough.
