Don't use the United States as an example they have there on Port problems with their ridiculous Jones Act and the Mafia control union port workers charging astronomical fees to offload a ship.

One of the reason why that particular aspect of the law is difficult to enforce is due to the fact that Immigration doesn't have the right to charge a Bahamian with anything even though they would be the entity to determine wither a person is employed illegally. Labeling the act of employing an illegal as criminal doesn't register in the Bahamian psyche because many of us would have done it one time or the other. The police would have to accompany the immigration officer during a raid and arrest the suspected employer. All the employer has to say is that he doesn't work for me.

Do the seem with BTC. If the previous government had any business acumen they would have sold the shares of BTC years before the introduction of competition. Those shares would have fetch a higher price.

As a business owner the concern is this. When I hire contractors, I don't ascertain whether the workers are legal or illegal. Who does the Department of Immigration charge. If a jail sentence is imminent do you think the contractor will rise his hands. In my company we sometimes have over 50 contract workers who don't work directly for me. Why should I be punish because the government has fail at doing its job.

In case you miss it, The Bahamas is regarded as a third world country. With regards to dismissing staff, the US hospitals will be happy to pick them up. The US medical facilities regularly have open houses with the intent of luring local medical personnel to move to the US. They offer them green cards and triple the salary they are making here.

On the street we would have said "the Bishop chicken out." All I know is that, I don't do a double take when a women is wearing a big dress. The women know why they dress in the manner that they do. Ask the prostitute and she would tell you the reason also.

For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. The Bahamas is been squeeze because it never saw the value in alliances. When things are going good the natural human tendency is to shun alliances. But alliances are like insurance policies, you will one day need them.

Love him or hate him, Mr Smith is tenacious. He makes a living going up against rookie attorneys in the AG office. Ironically, a first year law student could win most of these cases. You don't hold someone in jail for three years without a trial and expect someone like Mr Smith not to win. Such cases should be settle without the necessary burden of going to court.

Fred Mitchell had a brilliant plan to become PM but it all fell apart during this election. Fred Mitchell made it a point from the 1970's to foster relationships with PLP voting delegates. He attended funerals, events and made it a point to take them out for lunch during island visits. He was convince if given the opportunity he would be able to fight off any of his comrades in a straight up fight. He figured that his tough stance on immigration would have endeared to the populace. Everything fell apart after he was kick out of the HOA even though he was a good MP.
