Our elected officials are totally ignorant of what other countries are doing with regards to immigration. There is a world wide competition for qualified immigrants. United States and Canada have recognized this and has fully exploited it in the Western World. These two countries recognized that immigration is a net plus not a net negative. Their economies continue to grow not because of their indigenous population but because of immigrants. Case and point,I have a classmate with a PHD in physics who lives and work in the United States.

John, what I stated above is not theory but I go through it on a daily basis. As a businessman I employ quite a few low income earners($100 to $200 above minimum wage). In the last year I went through at least 60 guys. They last from a couple of days to two months.Don't babble what you don't know.

The Bahamas problem is some what different. Our problem is that we have high unemployment and also have a high unemployable grouping of people. The unemployable grows every year. Ironically, they don't view themselves as the problem but blames their plight on the government. Another problem the government faces is the fact that our indigenous population(generational Bahamian) lack the motivation to take advantage of a free education. These two problems will continue to hamper our development and economic trajectory.

Key point for education is to create a grammar track and an technical track. The differentiation should start from grade seven. Those who seemed incline to higher education should continue on the tract as currently constituted. Those who seem less incline should receive a trade, English, Math and Business. Basic Math should suffice. I don't know what the purpose of learning -b + or - the square root of B squared - 4ac all that over 2a. That formula has been in my head for over 30 years. Total waste of brain cells.

Brent was a good choice. Investor prefer to deal with someone who understand business. Brent past improprieties in the public sector would have been consider sound business practice in the private sector. All he did was cut out the middleman allowing direct purchases from Hot Mix. Everyone was using Hot Mix anyway. The middlemen put up a fuss because they were not getting their markups.

I am personally of the opinion that 25% of the budget is waste and kickbacks. If the FNM government keep the leeches at bay, the Bahamian people should realize significant savings.

It was good that he lost. If he would have won he most likely would have done what his predecessors did. We can't afford a bye-election.

I feel vindicated. I was one of the very few contributors on this post to support Dr. Minnis. All the talk of him been un-inspiring, wanton and lacking leadership ability has come to nothing. I refuse to allow newspaper editors to form my opinion. Both the Guardian and Tribune are now relishing in Dr. Minnis victory. I am quite sure they already had a piece written if he was not successful.
